Kidnapped teen safe, 7 arrested

NORTH COLLEGE HILL, Ohio (AP) -- Police arrested seven people in the kidnapping of a 17-year-old girl who was found in the basement of a house blindfolded and bound with duct tape, authorities said.

The suspects were being interviewed Monday by police in this Cincinnati suburb where the girl lives, as well as Cincinnati police and the FBI. Officials said they expected to charge the seven with kidnapping or other crimes.

Police accompanied the girl's father to a park where he was supposed to meet her captors, who had demanded ransom.

When a man showed up, they chased him to a house where the teen was found, authorities said.

The girl was taken Monday morning after she answered the door to a woman who knocked and asked for help, police said. Several people then forced their way inside.

The teen, whose name was not released, was reported missing by her mother when the woman returned home from her third-shift job. Around the same time, the kidnappers contacted the girl's father and demanded money, police said.

The father agreed to meet at the park. A man drove up to the planned meeting spot, but fled when he saw police and crashed in a Cincinnati neighborhood. Police then chased him on foot for two blocks to the house where the girl was found.

The teen was taken to a hospital and was expected to recover.

North College Hill police Chief Paul Toth said it was the first kidnapping for ransom in Hamilton County in 19 years.

"Somebody thought they had a chance to make some money," Toth said. "It could have gone sour in so many ways and levels."

I`am so glad the girl was found safe! Now when the police sort everything out they need to lock-up the ones that did this and throw the key away!

Pretty sad when it takes 7 people to kidnap ONE teen.
