Lackey Divorcing Wife Battling Cancer

Boston Red Sox pitcher John Lackey has filed to divorce his wife, Krista ... who is in the middle of battling breast cancer.

Lackey filed on August 30, according to court docs in Texas, claiming "the marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities." Krista and John got married in November, 2008.

Sources close to the family tell TMZ ... Krista underwent a double mastectomy back in March and underwent chemo as recently as June.

The divorce petition says John and Krista had a prenup. It also says Lackey has "separate property" he wants to keep for himself.

Lackey filed the divorce papers using only his and Krista's initials -- a tactic Tony Parker and Eva Longoria ... and Sandra Bullock and Jesse James also used in their Texas divorces.

It's unclear why Lackey -- who's struggled on the field all season long -- didn't wait til the off-season, about a month from now, to start divorce proceedings.

Lackey's camp had no comment.

Would much prefer to wait and judge him when all the facts come out. Would the people thinking he was dick still feel the same way if he just found out his wife had been screwing around on him before the cancer and he just found about it?

We tend to jump to alot of conclusions as a society these days without knowing all the facts. Now if it turns out he is just a dick then great he is a dick but until then I have a problem condemning somebody without those facts. Just my opinion

My Mother-in-law passed from cancer 6-7 years ago. My Father-in-law was by her side every minute he could be.

The hospice folks said he was one of the rare spouses as most choose not to be around to watch their spouse die.

I found that hard to believe.

What other meaning could be inferred by your knee jerk conclusion? I mean you called her a hypocrite for not practicing abstinence, right? Guess you have a lock on the facts on that one.

And, yes, whore may not have been the word you used. Certainly think I am not far off in thinking that was implied.

Maybe Lackey should hook up with Lance Armstrong. I have no problems calling him a scumbag now. I doubt the wife was cheating on him while battling cancer. If that's wrong I'd apologize but I see him as scum.
