LAPTOP or DESKTOP

Which do you use more often?

Which do you like better?

Get a laptop and don't look back. The portability is invaluable.

depends... for most id say a good laptop.

Problem for me is with a laptop you are limited to mostly crap. I don't like any cheap crap for my comps, and that is what you are going to get when you have to order from a big company like that... either that or get raped in price.

I am going to upgrade both here shortly. My new desktop is going to have all premo parts and its going to be like 1000-1200ish with me putting it together. This same rig would cost around 3k elsewhere.

As for laptop.. don't really know who makes a quality laptop.. or who uses premo parts for a good price.

Maybe someone else does ?

we have a few macbooks for the fam, bought all of them on ebay at different times and just replaced the harddrive when i got them..........not looking for a mac vs pc battle lol

but it's a nice machine, easy to use, solid performance....use it constantly, especially when i'm going to school since i'm doing it online....upgrading to a 15" screen for the next semester

they're a little more expensive usually, you can get a good 13" machine on ebay for around $500 but goes up to $650 or so for 15" screen so if you want a larger screen then you can definitely find cheaper options......also, if you're looking to play games and shit on your laptop, macbook probably not a great option, don't think the vid card is anything fantastic for something like that

Yea I forgot about mac... everything I have heard about them including your post has been good. Problem for me would be spending so much with the chance you are going to be limited in what software you can run down the line. They do have windows for mac type stuff now, but I am not sure everything that goes in to that or if it will drain your resources.

I used to be a huge PC proponent. I was a tech for many years. A few years ago, I switched to Macbooks. Yes they are more expensive than a PC-based laptop, but the added cost is well worth it. My Macbook Pro is rock-solid. 2.53GHz dual core, 8GB RAM, 640GB HD. To save some money I purchased a refurb directly from Apple. Apple's refurbs come with the same warranty as new products. To save more money, I upgraded the RAM and harddrives myself. When its all said and done, I saved roughly $700 and have a solid laptop. A $15 cable from NewEgg also allows me to connect the laptop to my 47 inch LED, which makes for one helluva monitor, when needed.

So you are saying you are buying them used ? That has gone well for you I guess ?

I was thinking about getting the laptop used just to save some $, because it would be the smart move. Problem for me is electronics are picky, and a bad owner could easily fk you so its hard for me to trust.

good call justdonating, forgot about their refurbs.....i've bought numerous machines from ebay over the last 7-8 yrs and have never had a problem.....i did have one HD die but the machine was probably 5 yrs old, didn't back up then so that's my fault, now i just get a hd from newegg and replace it immediately since they're so cheap anymore

You can run Parallels on a Mac, which will give you the ability to run an instance of Windows on your Mac. In addition to Mac OSx, I run Windows and Ubuntu on my Macbook. With 8GB on RAM, you don't see a noticeable decrease in performance. If you do, you can always reallocate resources to give more or less resources to a given instance.
