Laptop help(re-installin OS)

does amyone know how to re-install OS ,,,,i have windows CD but cant get passed teh login screen


to make a long story short,,,i lent a friend 2000 dollars,,,,the asshole according to his mom has left teh country,,,, however he left me his laptop as collateral,,,,its a nice one,,,so im not too upset at the 2k i no longer have ,,but ,,,how in the world can i just wipe out everything ,,and re-install,,,for some reason its not reading the cd-rom right when i turn the laptop on. i then went into the "Bios" and tried to switch boot priority from hdd>fdd>cd-rom>lan to cd-rom>lan>fdd>hdd,,,,,,,,,,,restart and u can see the cd rom light on like it sreadin it but laptop goes directly into his windows and the password login screen which i dont kno or cant get cause the asshole is no where to be found,,wats a fast way to just re-install window s xp....i have a legit cd right now with me ,,,,,i am havin trouble with the laptop readin wats in the cd-rom drive,,,,,

i also checked to make sire cd was workin,,by placin it in my desktop ,,,,the setup screen for windows xp automatically came up so cd-rom (windows xp) does work...i need ur help guys

restart it and before it starts up there will be a black screen where it tells u to press like "F9" i believe. hit that then insert disc and follow instructions

hoosier it says press f8,,,,, i pressed it which brings me to "safe mode",,i inserted disc,,and nothing................ disc is inside and screen still reads safe mode. very frustrating..

Your CD is not bootable. Do a Google search for Windows XP Boot Disk.
Burn it to CD, and use it.

bob but when i place teh cd in my regular dektop it reads it automatically,,,and this cd is teh originall that i got from my sister. So teh disk works,,,just thinkin of the settings the laptop may have,,as far as readin the cd-rom b4 the bootup....

I AM ABOUT TO PUT MY FIST THRU THE SCREEN,,,MAYBE IT WILL WORK THAN .....

I can tell you from experience that the fist through the screen technique does not work; sure as hell makes you feel good though.

Are you saying that the CD boots in the desktop? Or just that when you put it in with the PC already on a window pops up?

im sayin that the cd works,,,,because i tried it on my desktop computer,,,,when i put it in the laptop is where my problems are..

buy a new hard drive for the laptop
