Law of Averages?? - Shenanigans

I haven't heard, said, read, or thought of the word 'shenanigans' in years. YEARS I tell ya. Even though I am Irish, and it seems like an Irish word, I can honestly say that it is really not a part of my lexicon.

However, in the past 2 days, I have just come across that word for the 4th time. The first was watching the movie Waiting yesterday on Comedy Central (it's the name of the restaurant). Then this morning in the Mayweather/Pacquiao thread ThinkingDog uses the word and then emphasizes that fact that he used it. Then, moments ago, I was watching The Office on TBS. They were doing safety training and Darrell refers to the work Michael does in the office area as shenanigans.

Is that just the nature of the universe? Things evening out per se? The word and I have avoided each other for YEARS, and here it shows up 4 times in a matter of days.

I say it once a week or so, mostly for laughs in unusual situations.

I remember that it the early years of South Park, they were allowed by law to declare "shenanigans" on anyone, and I believe they then beat that person or animal with sticks.

I use the word "shenanigans" sparingly, as it has maximal impact when brought out in, as Mendoza Line states, "unusual" circumstances.

I also like to use more arcane words like "hussy" and "whippersnapper" in tight situations as well. It's disarming - well - for those who know the meanings.

I do use words/phrases like "Groovy" and "I dig it" - usually garners a snicker or two.

I also use the word on the slight occasion, but also like to say, "Tom Foolery", that is a good one too.
