Lawn questions

How often do you guys water the lawn?

How long?

What is the best way to treat brown spots in the lawn?

Just curious what you guys do. Out here in NM it's zero scaping central but I do have a putting green of a lawn and do my best to keep it nice and green. Actually thinking about actually turning it into a putting green

Right now I have the system set for 2 times a day 15min per zone. It has poured here for 2 days so I put it on hold. I will go to 10 ea zone per day once it greens up all the way. Also nuked the shit out of it 3 weeks ago. So I will be mowing twice a week for awhile.

Its best to water about 4am or 10pm,,if you dont have a irrigation system and have to do it manually, then do it in the evening if possible.

You should never water your lawn. 3 reasons.

1. Conserve. Want to make sure there is water for our grandkids
2. Cost. Most people in North America are on a meter now I assume.
3. Grass comes back very fast. Even if you live in a very dry area one good rain will bring grass back to life.

First off it depends on your soil. If you see puddling after 10 minutes of water you need to water twice a day for about 6 minutes a cycle. The water should be increased as the weather gets hotter. Never water at night and never water after 1100am. Watering at night causes white fly and it lets bacteria grow in your soil. Soil should be dry at night. In the spring in Cali I am watering 3 times a day. It will be increased as it gets hotter and NEVER water the day before you mow your lawn. Its important that you let the soil dry in between waterings.

You say you have brown spot but I might ask, do you have a dog ? If the answer is yes then my guess is you have piss burns. Mix some tomato juice in with your dogs food it helps and can illiminate spots on the lawn from your animal. Brown spot is treated with chemicals and they have many to pick from. I like Diazinon (sp) .

If you are going to turn your lawn into a putting green I might suggest some synthetic lawns as they need no water and they make wonderful putting greens. Best of luck
