Lest we forget . . . . .

With all of the attention being given to today and 666, I thought that it would be appropriate to remind everyone of an incredibly significant event which occured on this date, 62 years ago.

During Word War II, the Allied invasion of western Europe was launched on June 6, 1944 (to be forever known as D-Day), with the simultaneous landing of U.S., British, and Canadian forces on five separate beachheads in Normandy, France. By the end of August 1944 all of northern France was liberated, and the invading forces reorganized for the drive into Germany, where they would eventually meet with Soviet forces advancing from the east to bring an end to the Nazi Reich.

Be sure to take a moment this evening to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Normandy 62 years ago and honor those veterans who lived.

As a product (2nd gen) of two WWII vets, I will pay tribute and honor as well.

Click here for the audio of Ike's speech to the men as they readied themselves for the invasion.

I think that you are absolutely correct Henry and with all of the trivial bullshit that has been associated with this day, I thought that a more appropriate reference deserved at least some recognition. RIP to those that sacrificed everything for the common good and may all Nazis rot in hell.

Great post Judge! I was just telling my wife yesterday that it is a shame how the media, etc. put D-Day on the back burner for a bunch of 666 hype. If it were not for our countrymen/women and other Contries men/women then and now. Who knows how we would be living today or if we would even be alive today. A special thank you to all men and women past and present who keep us safe and sacrifice for us each and everyday. You are true heroes and you will never be forgotten. Thank you and God Bless you.
