Lets disect another futures market

Odds taken from Williamhill :

AL pennant winner :

N Y Yankees 1.90 (-110)

Minnesota 4.00 (+300)

Oakland 5.00 (+400)

Detroit 6.00 (+500)

Ok 5 units on Oakland returns 25. 6.25 on Minn returns 25. 4.16 on Det returns 25.

That means u have outlayed 15.41 to return 25 (-162). But hang on Dave aren't the Yankees (-110) ?

Thats right u have the Yankees at (-110) and the field in this case at (-162).
You can see how books disguse vig in certain markets.

I took the Yankees to NOT win the AL at (-110) in a market with two outcomes (-110) a piece. Bottom line books can't hide it in 2 event markets.

2 event outcome markets are nearly always the best way to bet and for futures this is nearly always so as well.

Basically in the above example by doing a few sums. I worked out that futures market to a two team event scenario that we all bet with often.

In the example one team the Yankees were (-110) that we already knew. The field worked out to be (-162). Would u bet on a 2 event market with those prices ? of course u wouldn't.

It shows how books hide vig or juice in markets with a number of outcomes and believe me if you thought that one was bad.......If I were to break down say the first touchdown scorer in the Superbowl or say the winner of a golf tournament (2 of numerous examples), the vig can be MUCH worse.

One example I did awhile back worked out something like (+100) for one
(-550) for the other!

Thanks for the explanation. Makes a lot more sense now. Just didn't know vig = juice.
