Exclamation Lets talk about this, should marijuana be legal in the USA?

My answer to this always used to be no. I've seen people I know lives turned upside down by the electric poha.

HOWEVER my view has changed after researching and talking to people how it has worked in other parts of the World .
Legalisation or discrimilisation of the drug has not meant increased use or abuse of the drug.
Lets face it anyone who wants to use it can generally find a way to get it if its illegal.
Imagine the huge revenue the government could churn out from it if it was legal.

I'm talking legal to be in possesion of and to grow a certain amount. In Amsterdam you can grow 5 plants and be in possesion. In Columbia you can grow 19 plants and be in possesion of 19 grams. If you are in favour what restrictions would work best in the USA?

Whats your take?.....Should be legal in the USA? or remain illegal? and why!

Make it legal. Think, not only, of the money made by taxing it, but of the millions and millions of dollars saved by not having to investigate, prosecute and jail the "criminals."

From a standpoint of logic and reason, yes. I haven't smoked pot since college, so I'm not biased. IMO alcohol is much more dangerous than pot will ever be.

Personal use of up to 1oz should be completely legal. Grown, bought, sold, whatever -- 1oz.

And we're getting there. Pretty sure anybody can get a prescription for it in Cali and go to the corner pot shop. My home state of Massachusetts just decriminalized it to make simple possession a $100 civil fine.

Prohibition never works as well as regulation and control

Well said. So far several replies and no-one yet thinks it should be illegal. I would love to hear someone's opinion who thinks that way!

Another point is being a teenager is alot about rebeling and that is a main reason why the drug is so popular with teenagers. Legalisation may even decrease use amoungst teens after a period of time if it is made legal.

not even a question, 100% yes. if alcohol is, why not marijuana?

have yet to hear about a guy getting stoned and going home to beat his wife, alcohol on the other hand...

a lot more documented cases of drunk drivers killing people than stoned drivers (not condoning driving while high at all, just saying one is more common than the other and yet the more common occurance is the legal one)

never been shown that marijuana is actually PHYSICALLY addicting, meaning, your body does not go through physical withdrawals like it would from cutting nicotine or alcohol or crack etc

really not sure why it's illegal, i guess all the nonsense arrests every year help keep cops, judges, lawyers, probation officers, court reporters, etc etc busy and working?

just came back from montego bay jamaica,
there you are allowed to grow two plants for your own consumption

of course many grow more to sell to tourists ,
as soon as i got out of airport i was approached
by baggage guy and said
and said no thanks i'll wait till i get to hotel where i'm
on safer grounds.

there i met an activity staff first day who got me $ 20 worth ,
ran out in 3 days
was at dissco , ordered a drink at bar asked
bartender if he had any stuff he said sure how much you want , 30 , 40
i said $ 30
smoked 3 big ones a day for 4 days

that's how thay supplement their income ...

not by hotel salary wages
you can smoke on the beach with security guards looking at you
they aren't police ,
its your property for the week ...

even saw people going up to the bar lighting up ordering a drrink ...

its "private" property"
after all

on the street in public you'll get pulled over ,
and cops take whatever $ you have saying
this is illegal i'm keeping you out of jail give me whatever you have...
