Letter from Goodell.....WTF is this guys deal.

Dear NFL Fan,

When I wrote to you last on behalf of the NFL, we promised you that we would work tirelessly to find a collectively bargained solution to our differences with the players' union. Subsequent to that letter to you, we agreed that the fastest way to a fair agreement was for everyone to work together through a mediation process. For the last three weeks I have personally attended every session of mediation, which is a process our clubs sincerely believe in.

Unfortunately, I have to tell you that earlier today the players' union walked away from mediation and collective bargaining and has initiated litigation against the clubs. In an effort to get a fair agreement now, our clubs offered a deal today that was, among other things, designed to have no adverse financial impact on veteran players in the early years, and would have met the players’ financial demands in the latter years of the agreement.

The proposal we made included an offer to narrow the player compensation gap that existed in the negotiations by splitting the difference; guarantee a reallocation of savings from first-round rookies to veterans and retirees without negatively affecting compensation for rounds 2-7; no compensation reduction for veterans; implement new year-round health and safety rules; retain the current 16-4 season format for at least two years with any subsequent changes subject to the approval of the league and union; and establish a new legacy fund for retired players ($82 million contributed by the owners over the next two years).

It was a deal that offered compromise, and would have ensured the well-being of our players and guaranteed the long-term future for the fans of the great game we all love so much. It was a deal where everyone would prosper.

We remain committed to collective bargaining and the federal mediation process until an agreement is reached, and call on the union to return to negotiations immediately. NFL players, clubs, and fans want an agreement. The only place it can be reached is at the bargaining table.

While we are disappointed with the union's actions, we remain steadfastly committed to reaching an agreement that serves the best interest of NFL players, clubs and fans, and thank you for your continued support of our League. First and foremost it is your passion for the game that drives us all, and we will not lose sight of this as we continue to work for a deal that works for everyone.

Yours,
Roger Goodell

Roger Goodell - Commissioner

#1 Does this clown think I care and #2 does he think writing this letter will make me think that the players are greedy?

NFL has the worst deal around for its players and as soon as the players want a bigger piece of the pie the owners locked them out.

While I am sure an agreement will get hammered out in time for the season to start in September I am still not certain why on earth Goodell would send out a letter like this.

This donk loves attention so much its not even funny.

NFL is BIG business. Feeds a lot of mouths besides the greedy owners and players. A lot of people and businesses will be hurting if NFL season canceled.

I think it would be GREAT if the public was strong enough to boycott Week 1 and possibly Week 2 of the season.....unfortunately that would never happen. The amount of money lost would be substantial and surely a point would be made.

lol... yeah got this and didn't even read it...

read this one... at least they gave up on 18 games...

If he really wanted to be informative, he would list out the major sticking points (besides seeing the owners' books - that's just not going to happen)... what each side wants.

The Players dont trust owners...........

If the NFLPA was going to give owners any more revenue credits, the union felt strongly that the league had to show its hand.

The Union wanted them to show examples how much teams were spending (and wasting, perhaps) and how some expenses that clubs claim as football expense should be personal expenses.

And at the end of the day, the union simply didn't trust that teams' financial records weren't riddled with such wasteful spending.

Doty:
The record shows that the NFL undertook contract negotiations to advance its own interests and harm the interest of the players.''

The owners are the employer, the players are the employees. The employees negotiate a contract and get paid by the employer. WTF?????

I'm sure the owners are hiding something since they didn't want to show their books but the fukking players signed a contract saying they would play for "$XXXXX".

Owners are pinching pennies at its finest and really its a shame for the amount of money they take in just from the TV.

Part of me gets it because of the 4 major sports football players can be easily replaced unlike the others but the other part says just share some more freakin money with these guys who nearly kill themselves every week playing this game.

Some of these owners lose 3 million a night playing poker and now they are making a big deal out of a health fund for players valued at 80+ million split amongst 32 teams?

Why not just increase the cap 10 million a season or 320 million for the players and move on.

I get it though. Its business and the owners cant just cave or the players will come back asking for more and more the next time around but why not just hammer out a deal in good faith and move on. The pie is plenty big for everyone to get full so they are blessed on that side of it.....I still think the owners are greedy.

in the end I think there are a handful of owners who feel like they got the worse deal last negotiation and pretty much are unwilling to budge. this is the #1 issue in my opinion on the owners side.

i don't think the players have a right to see the books but I do believe they have a right to not give back any money if they don't want to.
