Smile Manning up to your mistakes.

What ever happened to this? Always someone elses fault. I am so sick of that BS. The reason I am posting this is because I just had one of those very very rare occasions that someone did man up to his mistakes and he was a 17 year old kid. A couple of nights ago my daughter and 3 of her friends none of which were dating her just friends went for a ride in her explorer. When they left I had a bad feeling. Yep you guessed it they got in an accident. Self inflicted no other cars involved. Everyone was ok. My daughter took the worst of it. The air bag got her pretty good. The kid who was driving came over with his parents and apologized taking full responsibility. We don't have full coverage and neither does he. There is about 4k in damage. This kid and his parents offered to pay for all the damages. I was floored. They could have told me go fuk myself but they didn't. One of the other kids offered to pay on it also and he wasn't even driving. Of course I will repair it and told them I would pay half the parts but what a concept maning up to your mistakes. Maybe all is not lost.

I think you should man up and admit you misspelled "manning."

When I`m wrong I`m the first to admit it! Always been that way and always will be that way!

Yeah, Vic. Takes a little something to admit it (sort of that "ripping off a band-aid" feeling) but people respect it.

Respect earned > pride swallowed

I backed into my neighbors fathers car yesterday leaving the driveway. I just didn't see it there. I had been doing yardwork for a couple of hours and never saw it. So I knocked on the neighbors door and told him, then called the cops. He's going to get an estimate tomorrow, so we'll see. It should be just a new fender. 1st time I have been in an accident.

You should've just stolen the car, driven it into a river, and let his insurance company write him a check. He wouldn't have a replacement part fender, and your rates wouldn't go up. Everybody's happy!

Sorry, just realized I was in safe haven. If my lighthearted response was out of bounds, I apologize.

you're dead-on, everything is always someone else's fault now or there's always a reason, but that reason is never "i just screwed up"

we had someone recently screw something up at work and to cover it threw away the paperwork lol when in reality they could've just admitted they dropped the ball and moved on....he's not getting fired but talk about losing credibility

let me ask you this one pw as a mechanic ,

'the check engine light goes on ,
you have an expensive machine to diagnose the prob i understand

\could be simple as a loose gas cap , could be more complecated
a mechanic of mine said i check it for you for free once after that i gotta
charge you $100

so if he charges me $ 100 the 2nd time and can't find the problem ,
why cant he man up and say i cant find the problem ,

why does he have to charge me just cause he has an exp machine?
i understand that but if he cant figure it out why should
i be charged just for his time and use of his machine
that did nothing for me?

or if you fix it and it comes back on a week later ?

not neccesarilly a "mistake"

but charging somone for something u can't fix?

I never charge for diagnostics. I am prob the only one that don't. If I don't fix it I don't charge even if I do the work. Last week I had a kia break a timing belt. I went to the Kia website the one where you have to be a mechanic. Most don't know about these but every car manufacturer has one they just allow mechanics to use them. Anyway they said that the engine was noninterference. That means the valves won't bend when the belt breaks. I quote the price just thinking that all I have to do is change the belt. Well the engine was interference and it bent 2 valves. Long story short I had to do a $750 valve job for free because I quoted the price. I know for a fact that no other mechanic in the world would have done that but that's how I run my business always have. Some weeks I hit a home run some weeks I am lucky to cover expenses but I am not going to change.

Damn! I'd drive my car 1000 miles just to let you work on it. Damn hard to find anyone that stands behind stuff today.

Worked at a car dealership (Nissan/VW)for 7 years. All the new cars you just plug in the scanner under the steering wheel and it tells you what to fix. Cost a customer $75 just to plug it in.
