Mason The Dog Crawls Home On Broken Legs After Killer Tornado

Call me a sap or whatever you want, but this definitely warms my heart. Having a dog myself, this really hit home & love how it is a happy ending:

An Alabama dog named Mason was blown away by last month's tornadoes. Amazingly, he has found his way back home despite multiple odds and two broken legs, and his story brings a beacon of hope to people who have lost so much.

The terrier mix and its owners lost their home to the severe Alabama tornadoes, and his owners believed he was dead after they weren't able to find him. However, after two-and-a-half weeks, Mason's owners found him setting on the porch of their destroyed home when they came to look through the debris. What an incredibly shock it must have been to see their badly hurt pet waiting for them at what used to be the home they all shared!

Mason is at the Birmingham Jefferson County Animal Control shelter right now while his owners work to piece their lives back together. Shelter worker Phil Doster said, "This is probably the most dramatic we've seen as far as an injury in an animal that's survived this long. It's kind of tapering off, the amount of animals we're seeing because of the storm. For an animal just to show up on someone's porch after this time was pretty remarkable, especially with the condition he's in."

It's incredible that Mason was able to find his way home. After a month of such devastation throughout the U.S. due to storms with people losing homes and children and pets to these horrific storms, it is nice to hear a good news story. The little dog had surgery on May 20, and he is doing well. Shelter workers expect him to recover and to be able to go home once his family is ready.
