Medical Insurance

Anyone have any experience with Liberty Health Share or CH Ministries Healthshare?

Medical Insurance is a flipping nightmare self employed. Just wondering if anyone had experience with one of the healthshares, or any other ideas than an extremely high deductible plan with an HSA to reduce cost.

Have an appt tomorrow with an insurance broker, but just wanted recommendations if anyone has any.

im self employed and have a few employees, and we went with United, through Paychex

as far as I understand, you could hypothetically be a one man company and have a company plan

thats the way to go, look for a business plan, even if youre the only employee of said business

they cannot boot you out after a year making you find another plan every 12 months like a single payer

It's so different state by state. I have a small business and was BCBS HSA. In Texas that went through the roof so I now I have BCBS HMO for more than I paid for the PPo HSA plan. Lol.

They had one of those specialty plans but I was skeptical I passed on it for the HMO.

Natty,

I glanced your post about walking away and congrats on that. One thing I wasn’t clear on is does your wife work? If so, going on her plan through her employer would likely be one of your best options. If not I will warn you after looking at your financial breakdown that your monthly premiums are going to be shocking and will put a big dent in your monthly cash flow/expenses.

When you speak to that broker make to sure truly look at all options and find the one that bests fits your needs in terms of monthly cost, deductibles, co-pays, and any policy limits and possible added options like dental or optical.

On a side note I fucking hate medical insurance companies but that’s a whole other story.

Do your homework and good luck.

$1457 a month for myself and three kids. Little higher deductible and copays than what I had before, but not too horrible. Thing that surprised me was the subsidy. Not that I agree with it, but as long as I keep Adjusted Gross Income below 98k, the whole amount will be subsidized.

If we are paying the insurance for everyone in a similar situation, something is horribly fucked up in this country. But until they change the law, I will claim it.

That is the most fucked up thing I have ever read.

Using the word subsidy must mean some version of Obamacare I would guess. If you or anybody can make roughly six figures and qualify for a subsidy like that (paid for by taxpayers) that is absurd. I’m not criticizing you because if you qualify then take it but I
am truly SMH as I would never have believed a situation like yours existed. I thought the subsidies were for those making like a quarter or third of what you are.

I agree. When I worked for a Company, I made about 90 a year, and had to pay $500 a month to cover myself and dependents. Now that I am self employed, I can make that much, even more actually, because it goes off adjusted gross income, and get a little worse plan for free.

I think cap for 4 people is $98k, and if I remember what he said correctly it goes up another $12k per dependent, up to like 8 total.

Problem is the county I live in has very few options for insurance networks. For BCBS the only accept one network, Blue Options, there most expensive plans. Broker told me for group to be cheaper need at least 20 employees to see a savings, but as long as kickbacks are intact, that this is the best option.

I believe Pres. Trump made a short-term fix for those "On their own" in their own business. Enjoy it until he replaces Obamacare with a real-life insurance plan.

"Health Insurance"≠"Health Care.
