KFC Recipe Moved Amid High Security

Kathryn Elizabeth Tuggle

Colonel Sanders’s secret 68-year-old recipe is out.

Or, rather, it's being moved from its previous storage spot until security is revamped, according to a press release from KFC.

KFC’s only copy of the legendary recipe is on a single sheet of yellowed notebook paper, with the ingredients handwritten in pencil.

The tattered recipe will be moved today from its current location in a vaulted filing cabinet at the headquarters of KFC, which is owned by Yum! Brands (YUM: 38.01, -0.89, -2.28%), to an undisclosed location via armored car and full security detail. The recipe will travel in a briefcase handcuffed to security professional and former New York City police detective Bo Dietl.

The recipe, which has been under lock and key for decades, includes exact amounts of each ingredient, and the sheet bears the Colonel’s famous signature at the bottom. The recipe includes 11 herbs and spices, and only two company executives have ever had access to it.

Colonel Harland Sanders developed the recipe in 1940 in southeastern Kentucky.

"I don't want to be the president who loses the recipe," KFC President Roger Eaton told the Associated Press.

That was "copycat" KFC you had today.

Not the ORIGINAL recipe that Harland came up with.
