Moving to New Orleans..

Next month with my girl I need a change of scenery. I have never been, anything I should be privy to when I get there?

Be very careful. Don't wander.

I gotta ask, why New Orleans?

lol this is true. It really is that bad. It's like a third world country only a few blocks from where they herd all the tourists.

If you have a great opportunity there, go for it, but if you're just looking for a change of scenery and want to move south go somewhere like Nashville, Louisville, Dallas etc

Just where a Matt Ryan jersey when you're in public and everything will be just fine.

I was there in 1989 when I was 19, I had a blast. But I was young wide-eyed and ignorant. I did fall for Cajun Bingo But that was an important lesson in life.

Yeah New Orleans isn't a place you move "sight unseen". Might as well splurge and get a summer timeshare in Memphis or little rock while you're at it.

When I was there I was warned to not go too far off Bourbon Street because it was very dangerous

When I asked how far is too far, I was told 2-3 blocks

Hope it is a good move for you

I went to New Orleans about 2 years ago. Not what I expected, very run down. Bourbon street smelled of piss, vomit and regret. Also I hear a lot of pick pocketers around. It's good for a weekend deal, fuck bitches get drunk and leave, that type of thing. I stayed about a mile away from the super dome and a few blocks from Bourbon St.

There are however nicer quieter areas in other districts, all depends where. Good luck.

My wife and her cousin wanted to go shopping in the uptown area, they were looking for a taxi and a cop was nearby and they began talking. The cop straight up told them not to leave the area that it wouldn't be a good idea for two girls to go there at that hour. It was 3PM in the afternoon.

Good luck even finding a cop outside of the French quarter. Ain't happening.

Speaking of New Orleans cops whatever happened to all of the ones that abandoned their duty and the ones that were stealing stuff during Katrina? That kinda got swept under the rug and was never heard much about.

Why the F would you pack up and move there? Unless it's a great opportunity this is a horrible decision

makes ya wonder where all that aid money and donations went to rebuild the city. It was dangerous before, now its worse.

kind of like haiti all that aid money to rebuild and 5 years later still the same as the day the earth quake hit.

tells ya something about those fund raisers and donations, they dont go to intended causes but to someone elses pockets.

kind of like in the japan tsunami earth quake, the donations given globally by ordinary people and countries to japan, they spent 30 million of it to outfit their whaling fleet with it. and when there was and outcry on mispent funds globally, japan told the world to mind their own business.

I'm in the city all the time. Seems just as dangerous as before Katrina to me.

Plenty of things to do, lots of great food, but definitely don't just walk or drive around in and out of neighborhoods you know nothing about. And even on main streets or in touristy areas, don't carry a lot of money or credit cards, keep your money in your front pocket. Don't wear jewelry you care about, don't let your girl carry a purse if she doesn't have to. Don't fall for any scams on the street. A scam starts when basically any stranger walks up to you and says anything at all.

We're going out tomorrow night. Eat oysters early, then going to this comedy thing at the civic center. Should be a good time. Planning to make it home alive.

Don't carry her purse? How else is she going to tote around her drivers license and 20 pounds of completely random shit she never needs?

Beyond the excellent food and alcohol choices, there isn't anything positive to say about living in NOLA. Without a doubt, it's one of America's worst cities.

I will say that the food choices alone would keep me happy there for about 6 months.

Good luck.
