My Conversation With A Rastafarian

So In Montego Bay Ater a couple doobs and about
6 rum + cokes I see this rasta man ,
and ask him how’s its goin
he say ah rite
I ask if he need anthing ,
he say sure how bou rum + fruit juice I can’t get mesef

So I get it , he takes a break we star chatting

I go you a rasta man.
He says no man , rastafarian. Rsta different.

So I ask , not knowing what is rastafarian ?

He says well what you believe in God , christianinty ?

I say brought up that way but haven’t been to church in long time

So he ask is god man or woman?
I say man , few will say woman but most agree man
And jesus?
The son of God?

So how can man by himself without woman have a son?
A man without woman is alone without love

So rastafraians , we believe in rasta and his wife who will take us to
mount Zion if we live good live .

I asked him where rasta and his wife were created
from , he said good question I’ll get back you you ,
I like your thinking ..

And what is good life I ask?
He replied we just try to do what is good a right

I asked a bout his home he say
he built it himself it’s a simple 12 x 15
shake made out of concrete walls , wood floor a d tin roof.

Has no washroom he goes to river
He cooks out side to Make meals , has a river 500 feet away
to shower and bath.
Is maried with 3 kids.

He pays $200/year property taxes

I asked if he has a tv he says. An electrician ran the wires
from his neighbour and he pays part of neghbous bill.

I asked when last time he was at the doctor
he said 25 years ago
doctor told him cold are caused by common dust in houses and air
doctor told hin to eat the juice from 2 limes for 2 days
his cold was gone in 24 hours

Rastas believe that Haile Selassie is both God the Father
and God the Son of the holy Trinity, while it is themselves,
and potentially all human beings, who embody the Holy Spirit.

Thus, the human being is a church that contains the Holy Ghost.
Rastas see Haile Selassie as the head, and themselves as the body,
as another way of expressing this doctrine.

Some see Melchizedek in addition to Jesus as having been former incarnations of Haile Selassie. The reason Rastas have the doctrine of the Holy Trinity is because Haile Selassie is Power of the Trinity in Ethiopic.
Physical Immortality


Rastas are physical immortalists who believe the chosen
few will continue to live forever in their current bodies.

This idea of everliving (rather than everlasting)
life is very strong and important.



A good expression of this doctrine is in Lincoln Thompson's song Thanksgiving. After asking "What's destroying life?" he says,

"Tell I if you know." Paraphrasing the Bible, he continues,
"There are too many dead bodies lying around me...in a true reality,
down in the grave there is no life.

In silence there you'll be, with no-one to hear nor see,

and no matter what you saw, when you are dead you cannot praise Jah." Another may be seen in the lyrics to the 3rd World anthem, "96 Degrees in the Shade":
As sure as the Sun shine
Way up in the sky,
Today I stand here a victim -
The truth is I'll never die...

Perhaps the most well known example of this is Bob Marley's refusal to write a will despite suffering from the final stages of an advanced metastasized cancer (and the resulting controversy surrounding the distribution of his estate after his death) on the grounds that writing a will would mean he was giving in to death and forgoing his chance at everliving life.



I asked if he knows about obama , he said yes ,
I asked his opinion ,he said well there a years of problems
in America , he is only one man ,
so you can’t expect one person to fix everything
at once in four years .


I asked about His religious eatin habits ,
he said well we believe in not eating anyting with
either eyes or feet because they have a “spirit”,
like you and I do .

So we mostly eat fruits and vegetables
I asked what kind of food he grows ,
He said I have coconut treed , Mango trees , milberry nuts ,
Papaya, grow my own weed
he said I need to get an apple tree next ..

He said you ever try mushrooms?
I said when I was younger ..
He said they are they only ones “naturally fertizled
with cow S..T

All other mushrooms are sprayed with a chemical before harvested/
This is why they’re “ Magic”

we just listened to each other talk ...

just two people from two fif't countires and religions dscussing how
we'dthink about things without any arguments stating
tha's bs ,

just talkking and listening...

respecting eachother

the jamaicans have a saying respect man ,
is all they ask for when you come visit

like when politicians say this will never work ,
why not sit down ,
talk and listen to other persons point of view ,
then says here's where
i disagree and give them a chance to respond in
a polite manner
