My ebay vent ..sorry

as you guys know most likely, I am a lot like many of you with being on this site each and every day . I cant recall the last time I missed a day.
So in other words, even tho I have not met any of you guys , I sort of have a feeling that I still know some of you.

thus I sometimes share and in this case vent .

ok, so I recently finished a big expensive man cave of sorts in my basement . almost have six figures in it with custom cabinets, bar, full bathroom, a main room, bedroom, and my own room . As a collector I have 16 autographed golf flags displayed in various spots , hundreds of signed hall of fame baseballs, golf balls, photos, and so on . Way too much stuff..yet I still of thousands of items I haven't got room to display , thus I sell on ebay.

I have been buying/selling on ebay for 20 years .
so ebay sales are very slow as its sort of lost its luster and it has become very buyer friendly . Buyers are taking advantage of sellers buy claiming item wasn't received or received not as advertised, etc etc and they are winning . Sellers on ebay are almost at their mercy

and it has happened to me .. I have a guy that is making a false claim, thus has left negative feedback of which at least one potential buyer has already backed out of bidding . Really pisses me off, its not the $ about this particular sale ( $225 ) its the principal , the lying, and the lose of future sales because of the feedback.

anyway, need to vent and if anyone has same experiences and or any advice please let me know .

sorry , not an issue most will want to read and listen to , but then again you guys are my buds, so ya get to see it ..

and as always

good luck to all in the mall

What was the false claim?

Ebay is definitely buyer friendly. Slow sales are a part of the game and have been for some time. But if you are a continuous sellers, just keep listing and sales will come. Tracking is basically provided on every sale so no issues should be had with not received. Items received not as described are the big problem because its an easy out for buyers remorse.

Feedback isnt the end and I rarely look at feedback as a buyer unless its super iffy. Did the buyer happen to message you at all regarding feedback?

the card in question was a numbered card from the Heisman sets made in early 1990's
the publishing company had some of the Heisman winners sign a certain number of specially made cards . I have a friend that bought the publishers remaining inventory . These cards hardly ever got passed the dealers who bought directly from the publisher because there was a pattern that they could find these rare autographs .
So, I had one of these autographs that came directly from the sealed publishers case and put it into a card holder . No one ever touched the card except for handling from original case to card holder . I have had it for probably 15 years or so , decided to sell it after this buyer convinced me to do so. he had bought a few other signed items and inquired if I happened to have one of these rare cards..Only 200 were made and signed

Buyer is now asking for refund as he says the card was ' doctored ' to make it look better. the card has black borders that sometimes nick and he says I touched it up with a sharpie which of course cant be further from the truth . And I had pictures in the sale so he saw all the pictures before he bought and they of course don't show any tampering . he is so wrong , I don't like to call anyone a liar, but ...

sorry to hear about your experience 2ndbase. I collect sports and entertainment memorabilia. I used to purchase more from ebay but recently I prefer certain auction houses (RR Auction, Todd Mueller, SIG Auctions in particular). Have had a few negative experiences with sellers of memorabilia listing an item with a letter of provenance and then saying that the letter does not come with the item. WTF ? Or, they will list an item in once color (and provide a photo of it as well), and then send it in another color. That happened recently with a Dwier Brown (Field of Dreams) autograph I wanted. It was supposed to be in blue, but it came in red. Seller admitted his "mistake" and then literally disappeared. I waited 5 days and after getting no response to several ebay messages, I filed a dispute and posted negative feedback. Of course, he then wrote to me, irate that I gave him negative feedback (apparently I should have known he was "out of town". LOL). Am in the midst of the refund process right now. Truthfully, this is why I view ebay as a last resort in terms of adding pieces for my collection.

truthful and honest people .. is that too much to ask for ?

agree Keith, I need to look for alternative ways to sell some items as the scammers are too plentiful on ebay .

I have donated some items for silent auctions and may do more of that . What I would really like to do is tell some fund raising organization that ' hey , this is my cost for some items so I would like that out of them , everything above that is profit for you . It would be great profits for an organization that has a good following , thus a good cause and lots of potential bidders . I just cant give everything away for free . but ..

I did the entertainment autos for awhile too Keith . I have five notebooks full of autographed pictures of movie stars, sadly many of them are no longer with us .

My stepmother did the autograph thing for years writing to celebs for a picture and autograph. She got a ton but come to find out, 99% of them were signed by the publicist or secretary and not the actual celeb.

and many were autopen ..which did get easier to spot once I learned the trade a bit better.

I belonged and paid a club that would post successes and if they were indeed legit, secretarial, or autopen. Some are obvious fakes . I am confident in most of the legitimacy of most of mine .

And legit coa’s are even scrutinized .
Anyone can print up a coa and even some of the famous ones , PSA, JSA, etc aren’t perfect
I had an autographed Reggie Jackson ball that I got in person fail an authenticity test .
It’s tough to trust anymore .

That's why i stopped buying 20 years ago. I realized i would only get pennies on the dollar for things i was spending money on. Cards are the worst. I couldn't get $20 for $100 cards in mint shape. The whole collectible thing is somewhat of a scam really. Unless you are doing it to hold on to items and pass them on after death. If people do it as a money making venture, good luck if it is stuff like cards & autographs. More work than it's worth.

I still have things like Tony Gwynn & Robin Yount Rookie cards that used to be worth something and i couldn't get literally $5 for them. I kept getting told that maybe if i was in Milwaukee or San Diego that i could retrieve 25%-40% value. I said great but i am not in those fuckin cities!!!

I got out of it long ago cuz shit like that just kept happening. It was a joke.

hear ya Wayne
I have some mint, I think mint anyway, Yount, Brett, Gwynn rookies and they aren't worth near what they should be

I actually did some card shows and was a Upper Deck distributer for awhile . I had lots of early 90's stuff, yes, trash basically . When I moved in 2014 I filled a guys trunk up with unopened boxes, sets and cards from those days and lucked out and felt fortunate to get 3oo bucks for them .

as 2ndbase pointed out, if someone is going to fake a signature, they can (and are indeed likely to) fake the COA as well. I collect fairly high-end stuff, which is why I am more inclined to go through the top auction houses, where I have a greater comfort level. Although the top ones get 25% vig on any purchase, which certainly can add to the price. Any significant investment I make though, I try to do my homework as to what the legit signature looks like. Many of these sites like PSA/DNA and JSA (James Spence is a putz) are wrong with their thumbs up or thumbs down. There are only a few authenticators who I do trust out there.

If you can only get 25-40% of the value, then that is the value.

No, when it says the card is worth $100 it should be worth $100. It's like going to Kelly Blue book and seeing your car is worth 20,000 but nobody wants to give you more than 5 for it?

If it isn't worth $100 the books should stop saying it is

where are my Ohio tough guys ? I need to get after this dude

so, ebay talked me into accepting the return of all the cards . so I did . sent them postage and a tracking number to get to me
ebay told me to examine the cards once I get them and then determine if he indeed sent the same ones back
BUT effing ebay refunded the guy and charged me back to that same amount as soon as they saw the package arrived to me ..AS SOON as it got here , this dude got his refund and I got charged back
Then , I OPEN the package and its EMPTY .. yep ..nothing in it but five EMPTY card holders. that son of a bitch now got his cards for free …
Bunch of crap , its only 225 bucks but I am totally beside myself just cuz he got away with this ..he is sitting there laughing I am sure .. bastard

damn I am pissed

I had a Micheal Jordan rookie baseball and... can't find it for the life of me . Last time I saw it , I was showing it to a friend and his kid ....
I'm pretty sure I know where it went .... but I can't prove it ... it was a long time ago ...
Its probably not worth much .... or is it ?
