My Puppy Cant Walk

Hey guys I have a boxer puppy who is 14 weeks old. We have had him since he was 6 weeks old and recently he has been whining whenever someone touches his legs. I took him to the vet and she said that he may be growing to fast and his joints cant catch up and gave me some pain medicine for him... well he just woke me up whining like crazy and I took him outside and he couldnt walk!!! He would try and stand up and just fall and tried running and kept rolling over himself. I couldnt believe what I was seeing. I am very very worried just wondering if you guys have experienced this? He has always eaten extremely well and it just started all of the sudden now all he wants to do is sleep....thanks for the help.

Hey guys got the word from the vet that it may be distemper...a virus that can get into his brain and they think it may have already. She said that it was "up in the air" whether he will make it or not if it is indeed distemper. Has anyone ever heard of rimadyl? It is the medicine that was prescribed to him for his aching joint and thats when it began to get worse, i gave it to him for 3 days and now they are saying that they have to pump it out of his stomach....not a good day. He is staying at the clinic tonight and is being monitored on iv's... I put up a picture of him as my avatar...please keep us in your prayers!

Man that sux. My boxer is 14 weeks as well. He had his shots at 6 weeks 10 weeks and then at 12 weeks or pretty close to that time table. Anyway my boxer is or was clumsy as he was growing fast as well. The breeder technically has to keep a dog until 8 weeks old. Did they give you the records to see if he had the shot. I am not sure if mine had it at 6 weeks but when I took him the last two times he did have the distemper. I guess it doesn't matter at this point if he did not receive them initially but if he wasn't vaccinated before you had him the problem may lie with the breeder. We love our boxer outside of the pissing and crapping on the floor every once in awhile. I hope your boxer makes it through this. I am sure you are very attached as we already are with ours.

I hope it works out for you.

There are several articles obviously on the web. I am sure you already checked them out.
If not do so as they list the symptoms etc maybe this will help you determine some things from there.

He was due to get his shots this week, just hope its not to late thanks Tim I appreciate it man...best case scenario "which we are hoping for" he just had a bad reaction to the medicine. I have read quite a few articles on the internet with other puppies having the same problems with this medicine... legs stiffinening, throwing up etc. so hopefully the pain is just growing pains and they can get that medicine out of him tonight!!

He had to go back to the vet today, started having seizures again, once again cant walk and they are STILL not giving us any answers on what it may be!!! Hate seeing the little guy struggle through all of this as he is putting up a good fight, I just pray they find something this time and all this can go away!! Poor guy doesnt deserve this sh** I feel awful for him

He has been back at the vet all week, they called another vet at the University to get a second opinion and changed his medication to help with the seizures. His neck is locked in place to the point he cant move it at all very sad to see. I had a conversation with the vet about what to do and she started talking about quality of life and stuff....sucks pretty bad. We are going over to see him again today and hopefully this new medicine has worked....they still cant provide any answers as to what caused it though thanks Bobby! I will try and keep posted im just trying not to think about it, I keep telling myself he will be ok!

Sounds like this puppy has severe epilepsy.. i take it he's on something like phenobarb?? seizures at this stage is very dangerous being his bones and muscle mass can't take tork of them.. might be reason his neck locked into place.

Hope everything works out man..
