Funniest thing I have ever read in my life. Do they send one to employers and say it is unethical to lay somebody off who is working for you?

I am willing to bet Company A if they were not happy with what they were getting from you production wise would not have much of an issue getting rid of you well you are not happy with what you are getting from Company A so let them know the situation and if they are willing to match what you are being offered and feel that with the extra perks/money that they now are a better opportunity for you then stay and if they don't or it still won't matter then say thank you, wish them the best and head to Company B

5K out of college is pretty significant pay difference right out of college. Plus if their bonus/commision is better then its a no brainer for you.

You havent worked a day there yet anyways so i wouldnt worry about it too much, especially if you think the other job offer is much better.

The same thing happened to me out of college. I called company A after i excepted the previous afternoon and told them that company B called and offered me substanially more. It was 4K base + gas card+ truck + cell phone expenses.

He told me they couldnt touch it but understood if i went with the other company. No hard feeling at all. We actually used this guy as a sub contractor for a couple of projects i worked on too and no hard feelings were there.

Im a firm beleiver of everything happens for a reason.

Here is an example of why you shouldn't worry about changing your mind on Company A. This is first two paragraphs of article in MSP paper yesterday morning:

By ROCHELLE OLSON, Star Tribune
Last update: May 23, 2010 - 11:10 PM

New lawyer John Kay was ready for the fast track. He had graduated from Pepperdine University with honors. He speaks fluent Korean and is proficient in Mandarin Chinese.

But a year after graduating, he lives with his wife and young kids in his parents' Prior Lake basement. The $160,000-a-year job that a big Los Angeles firm offered him when he was in school disappeared during the economic downturn. He surfs the Internet for jobs while his wife works and his daughters nap.

Exactly, I manage a distribution facility and would feel bad for about one second if this was the other way around and I had to rescind a job offer to someone. Business is business, you have to look out for yourself. Take the better offer.

darealist,

You take whatever job will make you sleep better at night. Do not worry about the other company. I watched many people get laid off last year. It was brutal. Do what you have to do and move on. Don't look back.

Don't worry about the BS info your school gave you. Taking the job with company B sounds like a no brainer. The only piece of advice I'd give you is to properly notify company A that you aren't taking a position with them. Do it as soon as you can, so they can start making other arrangements.
