City woman finds diamond in Arkansas state park

MURFREESBORO, Ark. -- A Pittsburgh woman has unearthed a 3.17-carat canary yellow diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas.

Patti Kubli says she couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the sparkling, pear-shaped diamond Wednesday morning. Ms. Kubli says she's naming her find "Dori," after her mother.

Park interpreter Margi Jenks said it is the largest diamond found at the park this year.

It was the first time at the park for Ms. Kubli and her sister. She only spent 30 minutes digging before she found the diamond.

Crater of Diamonds State Park is located in southwest Arkansas and is the only diamond mine in North America where the public can search for diamonds and other gems and keep them.

The largest diamond ever found in the state park was 16 carats.
