Need a new TV for March Madness... Suggestions?

OK I am super bummed I couldn't watch the Memphis-Vols game in HD! I've been meaning to get a new TV forever, and the whole HD package too. I'm sick of my little 32 incher. But for March Madness I will definitely need a new TV!

I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for TVs? I need something cheap but still decent (can't really afford Sony haha). I was thinking Vizio maybe... I know they are pretty cheap and they seem to look good when I saw them at Costco, but I don't know much about them.

Any thoughts or other suggestions? I was thinking like a 42" LCD would be good.

Not plasma

You would be dumb lucky for it to last over 2.5 years if you use it with any consistancy. Not uncomon for them to blow out in under a year.

LCDs quality just as good imo and they last longer

The only thing I would suggest is make sure you look at the resolution... Needs to be at least 10,000:1.

You might consider the room your in (light/dark)... Light - get LCD; Dark - get Plasma.

I've got a 50" Samsung Plasma - have have no problems - bought 3 yr warranty.

Samsung makes Sony (FYI) and the piano black finish is best IMO...

Other than that, it's a personal thing. I did like the LG too, but Samsung just looked like the one for me - especially since they make Sony and are generally cheaper than Sony. I'm sure Vizio is a fine TV - just remember the resolution.

Disagree BC.. Plasma still has the best picture going.. my 42' sony wega is going on 6 years and still looks mint with thousands of hours on it.

When when everything goes hi def then i might make the switch to lcd.. ( that way it will take away from the bumpy screen ) until then i would suggest the pioneer ELITE plasma.. it's unbelievable !!!

Unbelievable price too...

Tross, mine doesn't bump, but it's not 6 years old. Agree with the pic quality of plasma being better though, but in the end, it's really marginal unless you get in to the 25,000:1 range...

I got the phillips lcd with the ambilight. pretty cool effect not just for sports but everything you watch. I have had no problems with mine and would definitely reccommend one. every time i watch a flat panel somewhere else it just doesn't seem the same without the wall lit up behind it
