New Internet Gambling Petition Started to Repeal the UIGEA
April 24, 2007
By: Larry Rutherford Staff Editor, CasinoGamblingWeb.com A new petition has been formed and its intentions are to express the mass public desire to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, the 21st century form of prohibition. The petition will be hand delivered by a representative of Casino Gambling Web to Barney Frank in Washington, D.C. Several gambling news reporting sites have been promoting the petition and the amount of signatures on the list is increasing at an impressive pace. The petition to ban the UIGEA can gain mass appeal if all blogs across the Internet write about and promote it. "As the sponsor of the petition," said Gordon Price of Casino Gambling Web, "let us explain that this is not about Internet gambling, so much as it is about the United States government taking away another one of the rights of the people." The following is the full petition statement that participants will be signing their name to. It is written to all members of Congress... 'As an American, I am outraged to learn that Congress has passed legislation that will severely restrict my ability to have certain freedoms in my own home. Unfair passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is clearly designed to restrict the freedoms of voters who sent you to office to represent them, and prevent us from making mature decisions about how we spend our leisure time and money. I am further outraged to learn that the bill was added at a late hour to the Safe Port Security Bill without the ability of debate and only 15 minutes prior to a vote on a must pass bill. It is improper for Congress to declare itself the overseer of American Morals and to enact legislation that dictates ideology instead of common sense. The United States, in so enacting this law, has willfully violated World Trade Organization rules and the WTO has ruled against the United States on this issue, in favor of the country of Antigua. Now the European Union is considering similar action as this is seen globally as protectionism. I urge you to use your considerable power and influence to ensure that this unfair legislation is repealed post haste, and our right to freedom is preserved.' Here is the link to the petition

US Internet Gambling Petition Reaches 1,000 Signatures
Article Highlight: "The bill was about Port Security and it was important that it passed before Senate sessions closed, so all the attachments, which had no opportunity to be debated or amended, also went through." Miami, FL 04/25/07 - In the first 48 hours of it being live the Internet gambling petition to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act has reached the 1,000 signature bench mark. The ultimate goal of the petition is to garner 400,000 signatures, however it will be hand delivered to Congressman Barney Frank if it gets to the 10,000 signature level. The Internet gambling petition has been promoted by several websites including Gambling 911, Cappers Mall, and Major Wager. "Larger petition signature numbers will come when the poker players in America become aware of the petition," says Gordon Price, spokesman for Casino Gambling Web, "and that will come when American mainstream media realizes that there is a 21st century form of prohibition going on." The petition is sponsored by Casino Gambling Web, who also is running a Public Outcry Campaign, which is a campaign intended to get the general public motivated to call their state representatives to express their dissent for the deceitfully passed Internet gambling bill. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (aka UIGEA), was passed last year in the closing moments of congressional sessions. The bill was attached to an unrelated Port Security Bill 15 minutes before the bill was presented on the Congress floor. Senators had no time to read fully through the entire bill before they were to vote on it. The bill was about Port Security and it was important that it passed before Senate sessions closed, so all the attachments, which had no opportunity to be debated or amended, also went through. As a result of the bill passing many large publicly owned UK companies went bankrupt as they had come to depend on US revenue. The head of the Financial Service Committee in the United States House of Representatives, Barney Frank, said about the bill, "One argument for (the passing of the UIGEA) was this activity adds nothing to the GDP (gross domestic product). That's a chilling principle; that if something doesn't add to the gross domestic product we can ban it. That's a kind of ... corporatism that is very troubling to me." The WTO also has ruled against the US in their passing of the UIGEA. The US claims they passed the bill for moral reasons, which is okay to the WTO, however, the WTO ruled that if it was for moral reasons than there should not have been exceptions in the bill allowing horse racing betting and state run lotteries to remain legal. "It is estimated that millions of Americans sign on every year to play poker and other casino games, yet the US government, who represent their people, passed a bill that stops them from being able to play," says Mr. Price. "We will do everything in our power to repeal this law that Mr. Frank called the stupidest in American history." ### © 2007 Press Release 365. All rights reserved. |
