new plan

so i get alot of calls from people to place bets for them, because they dont want the book knowing who they are and shit. and it pisses me off really, kinda makes me responsible for them since it goes in under my name. so what i do now is, if i get equal action on a side, i sit on it and adjust the line so i could possibly middle it.

last night line was -5

i gave s miss +4 1/2, tulsa -5 1/2.

i cant ever lose money, at worst i win the juice, but if a game gets middled i win. its nothing big with the bets, usually 100-300 total on each side, so its 10-30 bucks just for answering my phone with the possibility of winning 220-660.

thoughts?

How can you give two different lines on the same game? These kids calling you must be suckers.

bookies have diff lines, i had ones with -6 last night, -4 1/2, -5, -5 1/2. and most of them dont really even know the current line, but yea suckers is the right word. i look at it as a fee for me doing all the dirty work, costs you 1/2 point.

With friends like you, who needs enemies.....

I get these calls also, but they are always from good friends, so I can't imagine trying to stick them like that, although I will admit that it is annoying sometimes. If it ever got to the point where it really bothered me, I think I would just decline to do it, rather than try and profit off of them. But, to each his own, I suppose.

I'm not sure what I was "trying" but OK.

It's strange to me that you would be placing bets like that for random people who aren't friends of yours, but I guess that makes you a bookie and you're supposed to charge 'em some juice. Carry on.

Right. I misunderstood your arrangement. In your original post, it sounded like you had been doing this for free up until now (since making money doing it would be a "new plan"), which led me to believe that you were doing this as a favor for friends. Looks like that is not the case. Good luck this week.
