New " Rum " ideas needed

some of you guys know I am a capn and diet coke guy
Also like the Appleton Reserve- there is also one called Pyrate that is decent too.

Bob the Icon got me thinking about Rum and I was thinking also of Huey Lewis so in other words

" I need a new drink. "

any new ideas to do the trick will be greatly appreciated to support my lust for a little intoxication

do the Crown and water every now and then

Really looking for some new Rum ideas

Best rum to buy in the US and perhaps what to mix it with.

Appleton is verrrrry good stuff. A good rum straight up or with just a splash of coke is as good a drink as you can get.

Bacardi makes some frozen mixers for rum (see the frozen juice section of your grocery store). Good stuff, but don't waste premium rum on mixes like this, buy a cheaper rum for that.

A great one you've never heard of: Sandra Buys a Dog

My favorite dark rum is Gosling's, highly rated, but not expensive.

You can sub light rum for the Anejo if you want.

Tastes great, but not like anything you've tried. Plus, the name is so stupid it's cool.

Personally, I have two full sets of bartender tools and shakers/strainers. Makes you feel like a pro and it's just faster, especially if you're mixing the same drink for a couple of people at once.

When most people think about premium rum, they think about Cuba but Flor de Caña from Nicaragua has won more awards than any other rum in the world. Their website has some unique recipes that you might want to check out.

I drink it with soda or with pineapple juice when I want something refreshing.

Old Monk rum has a very interesting taste. It's from India and it's only $13. a 750ml here. I highly recommend giving it a try - goes great in Coke Zero.

I also like to get a gallon of apple cider and mixing it with Sailor Jerry. Captain is a pretty good staple, but I like Sailor Jerry better. It's good with Coke and a lime too.

Of course, I love the Myer's. It's good with coke, or pineapple juice, or even as a topper of any other rum cocktail.

One of the guys I used to work with would go home to the Dominican Republic every year and would bring me back a bottle of Brugal rum. That was good stuff too as I remember.
