Next 2 concerts on my agenda

Two concerts that are guaranteed I will leave the venue satisfied.

Not only could this be their last tour but even slimmer that they come again in my city. I won't snooze this time.

Neil Diamond Nov 30:
--------------------

Been wanting to see this guy in concert for years but never got around to it.

Neil Young Dec 2:
----------------

Ditto.

Has anyone seen either in concert?

Havn't seen either of those two. Used to be into concerts but not any more. Why?
I find the music quality is often very poor compared to recorded. Much prefer being at a party with recorded music playing. For me its all about the quality of the music acoustically.

agree... attending concerts just for the show or 'live purpose' not for the music itself...

For me it's just the opposite

When I go to a concert the last thing I want to hear is the song played note for note as it is on the record. I like improv and extended jams/solos the unpredictabilty of what's next.

Sometimes the songs live are poorly played but that is human nature. Many times the road is for experimentation and bands take more risks. Some turn out to be unbelievable and others trainwrecks but that is the beauty of live music.

Fair enough I can understand and appreciate that. Final straw for me was when I saw David Bowie here a few years back, we were about middle of the pack in terms of distance from the stage. Could barely hear the music and what we could was terrible quality. Outdoor arena and it rained certainly didn't help. Had plenty of trainwrecks as far as concerts here. But I may get back into it.

"Why?"

Yankee gave pretty much the straight answer.

And if I may add, we've lost a few Rockers in the 70's and 80's due to drug OD. Now in the 90's to this day these surviving Classic Rockers die of heart attacks and Cancers.

Imagine telling your kids/friends today that you've seen The Beatles or the Rolling Stones in a mid-60's concert or the early days of CCR or Led Zeppelin.

I look at this as the last straw for these Classic Rockers. Their end is coming soon even if their music survives. I want to capture that feeling sensation.

It's an experience.

Thanx.

If I could choose the setlist I'd go back mainly in my two favourite albums:

-Comes a Time

-Rust Never Sleeps

I've seen a Neil Young concert dvd. It was pretty entertaining. He tells a story before every song explaining why he wrote it.

Sounds like a "StoryTellers" DVD. There's a couple dozens of those out there from diff artists. Didn't know he had one. Will look for it. Right now I have 5 DVDs of him incl 2 bootlegs.

I luv to watch DVD concerts on my Big Screen...and the better ones (Pink Floyd, Metallica...) I rewatch on my theatre projector. But a live concert is a totally different dimension. Last time I saw Metallica/Godsmack in concert I could feel not only the boom-boom vibrate in me but also the heat from the bombs exploding on stage.

i used to be into going to concerts too...went to loads when i was in high school...not much since..but my reason is not the same as your's...i actually like live shows..the recordings i hear from concerts are often better than the studio versions...i dont go to concerts anymore because i am too lazy and don't like leaving the house much..and they are FUKING EXPENSIVE

might have to do with where you see concerts...it is not like nz is that easy to get to..fricking far for most acts and might have a reflection on the product that is produced...kind of like west coast to east coast travel for usa sports teams...the quality of performance is pretty dismal...most of the time nz is like the last stop on a tour
