Thumbs down Northern Illinois Tornado Outbreak

I've been hearing of some damage south of Chicago. The Towns of Streator and Dwight looked to have been hit pretty bad.

I hope rda21 and his family are safe.
His town listed is Streator.
Tornado was a mile wide.
Significant damage being reported on ABC7 around here.
All we got was rain, but about an inch and a half in 20-30 minutes.

They are still saying the same tornado is still causing havoc and is now 2 miles from the Indiana border. So that means it has caused damage from I-39 to Indiana. What a disasterbacle!

Yeah Jim Ramsey on WGN just said it finally died down. The worst damage seems to be from I-39 to I-55. We will see a lot more of what happened when the sun rises.

Tornadoes rip across central Illinois
msnbc.com
5:54 AM EST June 6, 2010
Emergency crews were assessing damage early Sunday after several tornadoes swept across north-central Illinois.
The twisters touched down at 8:45 p.m. local time, the Peoria Journal Star reported on its website. No injuries were immediately reported.
Tornadoes were reported in Elmwood, Peoria, Hanna City, Washington, East Peoria, Streator, Dwight, Kankakee and St. Anne.
Barns and silos were tipped over and there was damage to roofs in Streator, National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Wilson told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Witness Eddie Lavallie said the south side of Streator, a city of about 15,000 located 60 miles southwest of Joliet, suffered major damage.
"I saw people coming out of their homes right after the tornado hit; a second story of a house was taken off," Lavallie told Chicagobreakingnews.com. "Streator is just devastated. The city is leveled."
'War zone'
Lavallie said he didn't see any injuries but saw live wires in the streets, he told the website. He described the scene as a "war zone."
The News Tribune reported on its website that six people were believed to be trapped in a collapsed structure in Streator.
An Ameren Illinois Utilities statement issued early Sunday warned of broken utility poles and downed power lines throughout portions of central Illinois.
The Kankakee Daily Journal reported on its website that tornadoes leveled two homes near St. Anne. It cited extensive damage in Dwight.
Kankakee County ESDA Commander Brad O'Keefe told the Journal no injuries were reported. He said damage mostly was focused southeast of the Kankakee River.
Branches and powerlines were reportedly down in numerous locations, making travel difficult even for emergency personnel, who fought to reach some impacted areas, the Journal said.
