NTAP got creamed after lowering guidance

I didn't think the earning would be good. I was so tempted to short NTAP before the closing bell before earnings for announced. Nothing to aggressive, I almost shorted 1000 shares. I didn't expect a good forcast, but I never like to buy or sell stocks before earnings are announced. NTAP closed at 38.06 and ended up down 7.54 to 30.52 in after hours after lowering guidance. That would of been ridiculous to have entered but at the same time, now you guys see the risk of holding stocks before earnings are announced, what if it went the other way, thats why its good to keep money on the sidelines in situations like this and not get trapped, but damn, I almost expected this, but not that bad of a drop. Just an FYI for future reference.

Thanks for the insight Whodi, I'm starting to see your point about the earnings. Nevermind what you could've gained. It could of easily went the other way on some freak estimates for next Q.

I've sold out of AMZN for a small gain. Cashed out of CAG with a small loss. Hanging onto NEM as I see it stable even after the Moody downgrade a week ago. The market's due for a slide and people run to gold. Sitting on eBay as it bounces up and down just below my price point. SEB is due for a bounce IMO.

Think NTAP will come up tomorrow or Tuesday due to the selloff?

Hard to say, when stocks get slammed like that, I like to wait a little and let it stabize before entering a position. Just like in NEM, it seems to have finally made a base around 39, so I would wait to enter a position in NTAP, if anything, I would daytrade the stock, wait for a good day in the market along with the Semis and scalp a gain here and there.

I am still pissed about that CSCO, I made that posting and forgot to set my alarm, it was a clear short under 26 and I was going to short it even higher up, I could just tell it was heading south especially with the market flying, and due for a pull back. That was an easy trade I missed. Sometimes I have so much going on I slip up here and there. I was going to enter a big position on that one.
