NY cigarette smokers....it's now time to quit

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The average price of a pack of cigarettes in New York will be $5.82 under a tax increase state lawmakers have agreed to. The Legislature has agreed to boost the state cigarette tax by $1.25 per pack, which state budget makers say will raise $265 million annually, much of which would be used for health programs.

This will only boost purchases from online tobacco stores, Indian reservations, and send smokers out of state for their purchases IMHO.

it might not raise $265 mil but there's always going to be addicts that need convenient smokes so it will raise some cash. good for NY, hope more states follow suit.

$38.98 for a carton of marlboro red hard pack over here. Last year Texas voters passed a bill for a $1.00 tax hike on a pack of cigarettes.

that is not far man...just buy 10 cartons or each time...stocking up for a good price is always good....whenever i go from china to korea i usually take 15 cartons or so (2.50 a carton)...brought only 4 cartons into usa this time (14 dollars a carton for dunhill) because i never trust the us customs here...sometimes they check and sometimes they don't

Up to $11 per 25-pack over here

Anybody making minimum wage has to work almost 2 hours/day for that addiction--crazy.

Glad I quit cold turkey about 10 years ago--living proof--I survived!

Nova Scotia just passed a bill that u can't even smoke in your car if a passenger is younger than 18 years old. Expect the wave to continue throughout the rest of the Canadian Provinces...then USA always follows...they see us as a good precedent--lol.

Also soon, expect them to banish smoking outside work/government buildings.
