Odds of a winning a straight bet

I've been thinking about this all day and google hasnt really helped. This is probably a question for a math major.

A straight bet with the point spread that pays out 1/1 is suppose to be a 50/50 proposition. But if you factor in the event of a push, you actually have 3 possible outcomes: win, lose or push. So what exactly is the true probablility of winning or losing and does the push effect even matter in calculating this?

No clue with math, awful at it.

But if your just seeking in terms of winning or losing, wouldnt it be a 50/50

If you add the push, somewhere around 33.3333 or 1/3

Again, just my nonsense dont listen to me, let some one who is good with math confirm

A push wouldn't come into play with half point spreads!

Depends the number your getting on the spread. A 3 point score difference is the most common at about 13-14% so if the spread is on a 3 you can expect that game to push that amount of time. Different amount of pushes based on the spread number.

no money changes hand in a push so as a function of your bet a push is immaterial and does not effect the win or lose probabilities
