but sometimes if you don't get the cards you don't get the cards. I think it's a little lower than 80/20

How many times do you actually have to show your cards?

it depends on the players,

all solid players ----> 90/10 luck/skill

mix of good and shitty players -----> 30/70 luck/skill

the game is so elementary at the higher levels i cant undrstand how anyone can beat their chest calling themselves a pro, a poker pro is just someone who can justify allowing their financial means to be decided by a game of chance, and can dedicate the majority of their day to playing, basically a loser, you have to be an idiot to be a bad poker player, but there are plenty out there so it keeps the average joe think hes some kind of pro, a fun game but people try and make it so complex when most of the biggest pots in history have been won from suckng out from behind,,

Interesting question

Just picked up Deal Magazine:

Daniel Negreanu :
As of May 28

2006 Year To Date :
Cash games :+ 1,184,100
Tourneys : + $ 749,887
Online : -$215,239

Total : + 1,718,748

Interesting difference

Online is definately more luck. In a live game I'd say most of the game involves reading your opponents - this takes great skill to master. Online its more about the cards; live its more about the people.

there is one way to tell how to read your opponents in on line :

lets say your the third of 3 to act in a hand
you hold a jack 10 off suit,
the flop is A,10,5 rainbow

the first two have the "automatic" check on their
computer by how fast they check meaning they have nothing ...
then you bet an average amount hoping to tell them you're holding an ace...

chances are they'll fold cause they've shown you they were just hoping to catch something on the flop ...

this is why you should never use the automatic check/fold,
and wait 2-3 sec at least that's what i read...
