Our favorite musicians poll

Across all ages

Ask people of various ages about their favourite music and what do you get? Perhaps more common ground between the generations than you'd expect.

A Pew Research Center survey found the Beatles high on the list of every age group and other acts from the 1960s and 1970s popular among people too young to have known them when they performed.

Among those under 30, Michael Jackson was the No. 1 pick. For those 30-49, the Eagles won out. People 50-64 picked the Beatles - the winners overall. For those 65 and older, Frank Sinatra can't be beat.

Rock was the favourite type of music for every age group except 65 and above. Older people preferred country music, followed by classical.

Top 20 acts in the poll:

1. Beatles

2. Eagles

3. Johnny Cash

4. Michael Jackson

5. Elvis Presley

6. Rolling Stones

7. Aretha Franklin

8. Frank Sinatra

9. Carrie Underwood

10. Garth Brooks

11. Jimi Hendrix

12. Bruce Springsteen

13. Mariah Carey

14. Bob Dylan

15. Jefferson Airplane

16. Nirvana

17. Madonna

18. Coldplay

19. Kanye West

20. Grateful Dead

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

This may be the oddest poll ever

Still trying to figure out how Jefferson Airplane made the poll

My age group made The Eagles Number 1. Would say they are one of my Top 10 LEAST favorite groups

how do you "define"
f"avorite" musician

For example , elvis could not write nor read music ,
just play the guitar and sing songs

led zeppelin stole songs from other blues artitists

Micheal jackson could sing , and dance
but did he ever play a guitar or write songs?

its a question with no right
or wrong answer
like do you prefer
mustard or
ketchup
on a hotdog ...

If i like 80's retro ,
and another poster likes 70's rock

is there a real answer to determine who is right ?
or we each just have a personal taste of what we like

If i like a steak well done ,
and you like yours medium ...

cheers

Good points Kramer. We continually confuse "entertainers" and "musicians".
