For Parents.. hug and kiss your children

sort of sappy coming from the 2bagger tonight... but a sad and tragic event unfolded today in Omaha, specifically the Millard area, where we live.

A young student got distraught over how he was treated and came back to the high school ( not the one my daughter goes too, but about a mile away )
and he shot the principal and assistant principal.
He then took off in his car, parked it, and took his own life.

He was known as a good kid, Dad was a Cop, just moved to Millard as his folks were divorcing.. had some drug issues, apparantley..got in trouble today..came back with his Dads gun and did some damage

My daughters high school went into immediate lockdown , lights out, hide under your desks ... etc.. very frightening
even though it was not even at their school.. but for awhile, the shooter was loose.

It just makes you look back , take a peek, and realize how fragile life and some things you can't control are.

The two principals are in critical and stable conditions so they need our thoughts and prayers

sorry for a downer ... but just a reminder... appreciate and love each and every minute you have with your loved ones

Sad story although the parents should be held responsible. Cop going to lose his job for not having his fire arm locked up. He also should be held accountable for the damages done.

I parent can not be held accountable for the child's actions

We as parents can only try to mold our children into good adults but in the end they will make their own decisions

Even though the father was a cop I'm pretty sure that he didn't tell his son it was OK to go and shoot his 2 principals cause he had an issue with them/someone

The gun that he used is another story but the first statement you made is ignorant IMO

Thoughts are with all the families

That is so sad to hear, but on the news you tend to hear more & more about stuff like this. It makes you wonder what is this world coming to?

Disagree and I will tell you why. The cop should not have had the gun out for a minor to get his hands on. A Cop of all people should know better then to leave his gun out with ammunition also available. My Nephew watched his best friend get shot on the head by another person years ago. I stand firm on gun issues. I own 17 guns and you can NEVER come into my home and get a gun with ammunition and use it to harm someone. Well not with out a 2 keys. This cop should have his badge pulled. I am sorry that he lost his son but he can now also live with the fact that his stupidity cost someone else their life. Guns dont kill people, stupidity and guns kill people. RIP

kids are more influenced by their peers than their parents, which often times is a random congregation of people that offer convenient proximity and share similar interests, yet can sometimes lead to devastating consequences and behavior irregardless of home life

besides most boys find out where guns are held in their own home anyways, through subterfuge and sheer curiosity

its not always the parents' fault, sometimes its just a faulty protein causing a defective neuron transmission in the brain that leads to criminal behavior

but on average a good home life is a good home life because its in a good neighborhood with well-mannered children, and vice versa

the kid's dad is a cop, all his friends knows he is a cop, and thus would have access to guns, they have probably been badgering him for years to get his hands on the gun, finally he does to try to impress his friends while at the same time undergoes some form of stress he can't handle

he's no different than any other kid just at wrong place at wrong time, so is parent

it's his dad's fault, that's why cops suck all the time.

Blame the government!!! If everyone is able to carry firearms, the kid would have thought this through and told them to meet him in the yard at high noon.

How do you know the gun was just laying around?

It very easily could have been locked up and kid knew where the key was or the combination..

Fairly certain that info wasn't released as of yet so I doubt you know the how's and what's

jesus christ i'm not even going to touch this one.

well maybe i am.

steel you've jumped to way too many conclusions. uva is right, kids emulate their friends way more than their parents, especially in high school.

no one said the gun was laying around. and would you go tell this father, shortly after burying his son, that he should be held accountable for leaving his gun laying around? again, who said it was laying around?

by your logic, no cops should ever have children, and if they do, swap their guns for pepper spray?

I will say....if it was his dads duty weapon and not locked up he will be in some sort of dept. trouble....granted I dont know the laws in that state and I'm sure Steel doesnt as well

Steel...you say you have 2 keys to access your weapons and ammo...If lets say you wife took those guys and went into the cases and then went a killed someone is it your fault as well and you should be held responsible? By your logic you should be as much to blame as her
