Lightbulb For the people who call Derek Jeter overrated

I am not a fan of the Yankees but I am Derek Jeter. I don't understand why people call Derek Jeter overrated? Is it because he doesn't hit home runs? Is it because he publicly doesn't do anything wrong and comes off as a good guy?

Only 29 players have 3,000 hits and in the steroid era when home runs have become sexy, I think people forget that you don't have to be a home run hitter to be a great player. To consider that he is the first Yankee with all that tradition and the great players that have played for the Yankees to reach 3,000 hits says a lot.

When it's all said and done, Jeter will probably be 4th or 5th on the all-time hit list. If he gets 5th, only Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron and Stan Musial will be ahead of him. Is that not great? Some of the players he will most likely pass and be ahead of are Honus Wagner, Carl Yastremski, Willie Mays, Cal Ripken, George Brett, Tony Gwynn, Rod Carew and Wade Boggs. Is that not great?

Besides the 3,000+ hits here are some other Jeter accomplishments

5 World Series wins
He has 200 hits 7 different times
Was the AL or MLB singles leader in 97-99
5 time Gold Glove
He has an MVP in the World Series and All-Star game
He's a 12 time all-star
He was a Rookie of the Year.
He was a Minor League Player of the Year.

Derek Jeter has been to the playoffs every year since he started in 1996 (maybe he missed once)

Jeter has a lifetime .314 batting average

When people criticize athletes it's usually because they struggle under pressure, don't win championships or don't perform in the clutch. Jeter is very clutch, performs in big spots and has plenty of championships.

Hitting a home run and going 5-5 in this big game really describes Jeter's career.

I just really don' see how he's overrated. You can make a case that Jeter is the best SS in history

So let's hear why or how Jeter is overrated!

So you are saying people call Jeter overrated only based on this year or even last year when the guy is on the downside of his career?

If the Yankees were concerned about putting the best team in the field and not worrying about hurting Jeter's feelings, they would have been writing A-Rod in as the starting shortstop for the past few years.

I don't know if there would have been another position for Jeter in the field, in which case he has to be left at shortstop and it's all a moot point because it's the only way to get both guys in the lineup, but A-Rod was the better shortstop.

He had an excellent career, and is still pretty good, but today Jeter seems to be living off his past.

I agree that Nunez is the better option at SS right now. No way you can bench Jeter though.

Have u seen him in the field....Nunez is a sieve had 3 errors in one game...then followed it up with another error the following game. He has game at the plate..but in the field..huge liability.

Finally, like Chris46139 says, it's big gaps between intelligent posts by the Dr, but this is one of them.

"I just really don' see how he's overrated. You can make a case that Jeter is the best SS in history" -Not sure how this can be when he is not even the best shortstop on his team.
