Lightbulb Pete Carroll

He knew this was all coming obviously.

Does this USC beating change anything how Carroll is regarded as one of the all-time great college coaches of the last decade?

i dont think it changes how good of a coach he is...it really depends on how much he knew of the things going on

Hard to deny he's a good coach who built a program back with a lot of talent.

Do you personally believe he was in the dark about all of this? It's not just football so I suppose that's possible

you see programs underacheive with similar type of talen every year. regardless of how he got the players, he still had to coach them up and he did.

I'm sure he might have heard things, but I dont think he's gonna go out of his way to investigate stuff or follow reggie bush everywhere he's going to see who he's associating with. Bottom line is only he really knows how much he could have prevented but I dont think any of that really changes how good of a coach he was...but it does change how you view his success of the program since he has set it back a few years despite the early domination

Agree with this. It will be interesting to see how much this ends up hurting USC. Miami's gone through it a couple of times. They won't even feel it for several years probably

where will Kiffin be at that point?

Great great recruiter, good coach. He had alot of really good coordinators. He knew what was going on but he was winning so. I think people kinda forget how dominate USC was this decade

Agree with you SM. When he took over they were nowhere near the top of the Pac 10 let alone top program in nation.

I will never believe he didn't have any idea what is going on with the program. He is the head coach and definately knows what is going on with his star players. That being said can't take anything away from his coaching.

it is a complete joke that the coach can walk off to another job with no penalties and it is the school and the kids left behind who all suffer

of course Carroll knew this was coming down, why else does he leave for probably one of the worst franchises in all of the NFL? He leaves perfect weather and the perfect job for the "challenge"? I don't think so.

There should be standard language in every NCAA coaching contract stating that should the team be found in violation of NCAA rules and it was on their watch they will be fined up to their full salary for that time period.

Calipari should now owe what like $20 mil back to the NCAA? There should also be a fine for leaving a school before the coaches contract is complete, something to discourage them from leaving the players without notice

Jeezus these kids play for free and their careers are on the line in many cases and the coaches do whatever they want and the kids suffer

As an OU alum I saw this same thing happen at the end of the Switzer era. Switzer left amid allegations of improper conduct by many players. Did Switzer know the stuff was happening, I say hell yes. Did he know how bad some of it was, probably not. The reality is this stuff happens in every program and its only a matter of time before it comes to light.

As it relates to Carroll, I think he knew what was going on. I think he left because during the investigation, he found out how bad things were. USC athletics have lived on borrowed time for many years. There have been questionable actions for many years.

How are the kids suffering. Every junior and senior can transfer without sitting out next season. Throw on top of the fact other schools can contact them. If they are on scholarship they are still getting whatever that entails.

For football they miss 1 game that is played one month after the season ends. Given the current CFB format if they went undefeated and missed out on championship game (due to the ban), it would be debated and get as much coverage as if they were playing in the game.

I agree the coaches shouldn't be able to go to another college but if they can get a job in the NFL or NBA coaching who cares. If bad enough sanctions the NCAA will make sure the coach does coach in NCAA (i.e. Todd Bozeman and Kelvin Sampson).

This whole situation makes me despise Pete Carroll. Regardless of if he knew first hand what was going on he should be held accountable on some degree. The only thing that makes me feel a little better about all of this is the fact that Lane Kiffin will be suffering the consequences.
