That was really blatant. Either don't do the "Pledge" or say the "under god" part.

Whether those words should be there or not can be argued, but they are officially part of the pledge since the 50's (I think) and to cut them out is an obvious, purposeful statement by NBC.

NBC, don't make political or religious statements, just show us the golf. After "in god we trust" is taken off the money and all carved "god" references are removed from marble and stone structures in DC, then maybe you can start editorializing.

Of the non-christians in this country, only about 5% are actively offended by the "god" stuff, and 90% of those 5% are idiots, so don't placate them.

Just do the pledge, and the normal, sane non-religious people will drink their beer, eat their nachos, and not notice. Omit it, and everyone notices.

Yes.

You should see that as a hugely positive deviation from the norm for non-christians, who can generally be regarded as educated people and critical thinkers.

I'm guessing 5% of the non-christians (agnostics to athiets to wiccans) are actually actively offended at the ommission of "under god" from the pledge. Most are smart enough to not care.

50% of all people are stupid, and 90% of all people who get offended by marginally offensive things are idiots. (Opinon, of course, but fairly accurate.)

Smart non-christians don't care. This is a christian nation. If you're not used to seeing "jesus" and "god" here and there, you're not paying attention.

So, to summarize for BLB, 90% of the 5% we're talking about here is a whole lot fewer idiots that the general population.



And just a constructive criticism for you: don't include the phrase "flying men" in your characterization of religion. It is cartoonish, and it diminishes the strength of your argument. "Fairytale" is sufficient.

The words "under God" were not added to the pledge until 1954, when President Eisenhower signed Congressional legislation to that effect into law.
