Question POD Discussion for April

If anyone has input now is your chance. I will not guarantee that we will use your suggestion but I like to read them

A couple of things I am leaning towards adding in

1. Outrageous dog money lines will probably be eliminated. I am not sure this helps with handicapping and only gives people a chance to take a shot

2. Considering adding a best bet of some kind whether it be once a month or week - not sure

LEt me know if you have any thoughts

Both good ideas Jack. I would say +200 to -200 is a good range to use. Also, i think it is a must to have a best bet each week. This way, people who get down early dont quit, they would still have a chance.

Somebody has a "Hail Mary" for today at +800 plus.
So basically, if you are down, you keep going for the "Hail Mary" day after day after day until you hit it.

The "best bet" is in essence the "Hail Mary" in sheep's clothing.
If you are down, you take +250 and make it your "best bet" which becomes 5 times +250.

There should be no trumps as this tends to reward people who don't do their homework.

I like the way it is. The only thing I would change.....yes the best bet Idea but don't make it outrageous in terms of how much u win If it hits. Eg maybe just win 2 units on a +100 line rather than 1 unit. Also like the Idea to limit big dog plays -200 +200 range sounds good to me, not a strong opinion on that though.

the outrageous dog M/L

Personally I find one every once in awhile and putting a limit on them would be my preference as compared eliminating them, for instance you may call a -325 dog but you are only allowed one losing dog over -205 per month.

I remember last year that someone was wanting to lay their bankroll on the Yanks at home to KC, the line was -280 to -300 or something like that. what they had failed to notice was that the KC bats had just lit up the Tigers pitching staff over a 4 gm series, and all they saw was the yanks and M.Mussina pitching and figured it was a "lock". Needless to say KC won 8-3 I think was the score.
I saw the hot bats of KC and popped a hun on them.

you may get some short days (mondays and thurs) where you cant make up your mind on a POD or Bestbet, but not be allowed to place that "value" that you spotted heading into a "mismatch"

the key I think would be one large dog loss per calender month and that you police yourself cause you can bet your ass that we`ll be paying attention if one or more is won

2 not 5....5 is alot, dogs -200 have around a 35% chance of losing so, it catches up sometimes if u play them alot, i agree that the best bet but everyting else is fine

I like the way it is but on the standings sheet if you are mathematically eliminated(The min is 20 games and you have 4 on the 29th)you should be removed from the list. You have guys that played 4 games and have a + score and you have guys below them that played 29 games.Just a thought.

I don't think it's the same as a hail mary and I understand the point. If the best bet is 3 units maybe I think it accomplishes a fun twist and protects from a hail mary every day. It might give you once chance for one. I am not sure about the once per week or once per month though - leaning towards once per week for 2 or 3 units

Jack...How about once per week for 2 or 3 units and 1 play during the month for say 5-6 units? I think most of us find one game a month we really like and this would allow for our "handicapping expertise" to better factor in.

Another thing I would like to see.....

Money management is a very Important part of wagering on sports. Why not incorporate it into this comp, it can only benefit people to practice their money management. Maybe have something like plays 1-3 units inclusive with limits on how many 2 and 3 unit plays for the comp.
