When you've been around poker for as long as I have , you've heard every theory , rumor and falsehood there is about the game. Poker is indeed full of myths and here are some of the BIGGEST ones :

Poker is illegal : Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact , the U.S.
gov't recognizes poker as a game of SKILL. Yes there may be juristictions where playing poker for money is illegal , but there is nothing illegal about playing poker with friends or even playing it for a living.

It takes several years to learn poker. Not true. At least not anymore.
Today thanks to peole like Doyle Brunson who wrote super system its easier than ever to learn how to play poker at a competitive level.There's also numerous books ,software, DVD'S and other teaching tools available.

Poker is all about BLUFFING . False . Its not. In fact this is one of the mistakes novice players make.
Professionals win by getting full VALUE for their strong hands while minimizing their losses on losing hands.
Bluffing is simply a tool that should be used spoaradically making it that much more effective .

Poker is a man's game. Hardly anymore. We are seeing more and more women ameteurs and pros alike playing now.
One of the worlds best players , Jennifer Harman is a regular winner in the worlds biggest cash game against the likes of Chip Reese and Phil Ivey .

On line poker is RIGGED !!
Another falsehood.
Some people have a tendancy to blame anyone but themselves for their losses.
Before the arrival of on line poker complainer would blame the casino dealer for their bad luck.
On line poker has become the new victim of abuse from players who would
rather blame their computer than their own lack of poker playing skills .

Poker is gambling and you have to gamle to make it fun.
Too often poker and gambling are considered to be synonymous.
Yes poker is a game and yes you can gamble at it.
You can also gamble on monopoly, hop scotch or the flip of a coin if you chose to do so.

No limit hold em is the most skillful form of poker.
WRONG!!

There actually is a game of poker that requires even more skill.
Pot limit hold em/

This game gives solid players a bigger advantage because it takes away the
beginners deadly all-in weapon. It also forces more sophisticated POST flop play.

The game is All LUCK.
Many people still believe this NONSENSE.
This misconception comes from people who don't understand poker
or haven't figured out how to win at it .

you can't win at low limit games...
Another falsehood.
I've met several people who feel they can't win at low limit tables because too many players see the flop and then stick around to see the river .

While a game like this will inmcrease your stack fluctuation and may make you think your in less control ,
there isn't a more profitabl game in the house.
If you're losing in lower limit tables , then yous should
stay away from higher limit tables.

You need a poker face.

If you've watched me play on t.v. you'll see I don't have a poker face at all.

I'm generally joking around and making all kinds of goofy faces.

Its like someone going in hard with a pair of aces,k's,q's at the beginning before the flop ,,
and someone else having k,q suited or off suited
and getting a straight or flush on the flop
and the guy with the aces saying its rigged ...
