Porcupine crash
RCMP cruiser totaled after freak accident By Sun Media Bashaw RCMP officer suffered minor cuts and bruises early Sunday morning after totalling his cruiser in a collision with a porcupine. The Mountie was driving west on Highway 53 just outside Bashaw about 2 a.m., when a porcupine suddenly crossed in front of him. The officer tried to avoid the prickly animal, but struck it. The car went into the ditch, hit an approach and flipped, said Const. Lisa Ruddell. The officer got out of the car and called for help. He was taken to hospital and released shortly after. The porcupine died in the collision. Bashaw is 156 km southeast of Edmonton.
