Posted records

This is kind of branching off on the what do you look for in Sports forum (think this deserves its own thread). See a lot of people constantly complain about people not keeping posted records.

Do you wish all people would be required to keep them?
Do you trust most the records being posted?
How do you use the records posted?

I'm sure some people have reasons for not keeping a record, whether it time, or not doing units, or playing parlays, or whatever. All I want is that if you do keep a record, keep an accurate record.

Do you trust most the records being posted? Yeah, at least from guys who have been around awhile.

How do you use the records posted? Not quite sure of the meaning of this question.
Answered your questions -

If youre someone who only wants to follow people who keep a record, then do just that - ignore the people who dont. I dont think its fair to ask everyone who posts plays to keep a record - but for people who want to maybe there's a way to get more people to do it, do you have any suggestions? Maybe people who keep a record could be given reward points for it somehow, not exactly sure how you could do that though? What would be your idea on how to get more people to keep a record?

real simple take on this....its not the poster's responsibility to keep a record

if anything it's those who follow's responsibility

in the end it's not mandatory to keep a record

but if you do post a record, it must be accurate

and anyone who does choose to track someone, can call out someone too

I personally think jack should bring back the tracker forum, forum strictly for picks

one thread, per sport, per year, per poster

mods can take turns grading

its a serious chore, but only way

When I first started at this site liked seeing records and wouldn't look at individuals who didn't have one. As time went on found a group of cappers I like to check out and use only view their threads.

If I am going to tail a person I am going to track them myself for a few days to see if they are someone I want to tail or follow. If I am going to research them what is the point of a record.

Plus you can look at the views of the threads and get a good idea of who draws interest here. Isn't that enough information for you to start with.

some of the best cappers on this site dont get views and go unnoticed

and ill add from a statistical viewpoint, unless you tail every play, day in day out...

...from a poster with a winning record (assuming a large sample)

any given day you could lose your hat regardless, dependent on the pct of your br you put into play on any one event

I do the best I possibly can to keep a record just to be honest about how I'm doing....it's personal for the most part but I also do it so others can see if I'm doing well or good fade material. I am guilty of forgetting to update my record once or twice a month.....I just get side tracked and forget one of my days. I know I have forgotten good days and bad days so I'm sure it's about even anyway.

I think record keeping is personal....nobody should HAVE to do it. I guess you can give more advice and put your 2 cents in more if people know your history compared to if you have a "ghost" history and claim to be running well.

Ups - worded it poorly. Should have been what value do you get out of a posted record. Pretty clear some individuals on this site are annoyed people don't post records. So was just curious what value they get out of them (i.e. if you see someone with poor record do you start to fade).

Romo - tracker was before my time. Guessing there is databases out there of some sort that can be added to site to take away grading.

I'm pretty new to this site. I have really enjoyed my time here so far. I would say though that I prefer to see records tracked (W-L, units). I feel it gives anyone new who joins this site, or even those who have been around awhile, some trust in the guys they may follow. I think one of the biggest knocks against touts is they lie their fuking asses off and no one can trust them. At least here, it helps build some trust. Just my .02

Cant say that I have seen this, but what I think Ive seen more of and rightly so is complaints/calling the poster out for not keeping proper records or trying to bring records from other sites that cant be verified.
Also, if this thread is in relation to my comments in the `what do you look for` thread, What I meant there was I dont want to be wading through a bunch of threads that are only someones plays while looking for the ones with posted records. I myself dont believe that everyone should keep records, but I do appreciate the ones that do.

people should NOT have to post a record. I agree with Upinya that it would decrease the people posting plays as most know how they are doing on their own without taking the time...

now, if anyone tails a play its their own fault if it losses. you tail at your own risk regardless of a record posted or not

i keep a record. i know how im doing, but i like it personally. i do see some people getting tons of love that i know suck, so i think its funny

i chose to keep a record of my posted plays strictly for my own benefit.....for the last 7 years, i've kept a excel spreadsheet of every single bet i've made....i want to know where i stand with each sport year after year.....

for CM, i do think that people who are regular play posters should keep a record....my reason behind this is for the members who follow and tail daily...these people should be informed as to how their poster's plays are doing YTD

A common misconception is that records only serve the purpose of "showing off" or are for people who want to follow the best cappers

the greatest benefit to keeping a record is to help identify strong and weak areas and to give the capper the ability to tighten things up a bit

db, for example, is well-aware that when he posts something as 15* or higher it's usually a winner. But can I quantify that into an exact %? Not yet, but next season in football we will track it and find out. Going further, if db posts a 15* play as a dog, is that better than if it posts a fave? no way to know...yet
