Poster Judger : Coata rica/ Panama Comparisons?

So Judger what are your likes ,
dislikes of each country

and compared to your U.S.A. city ?

Food wise?

Housing?
(rent/buying)\

Lifestyle?

Nightlife?

Relaxation ?

Thoughts?

I figured this might be an interesting conversation

leave politics out of it ..

Kramer, as you might imagine, it has been a very long day so pardon me if I don't take the time tonight to address your questions sufficiently. However, I promise that I will do so in the near future and you're right, this could end up being an "interesting conversation".

In a nutshell, there really is no comparison. Panama is the most modern country in Latin America and while Costa Rica has a special place in my heart, I choose to make Panama my home for a variety of good reasons.

More on this later; I promise. ..

Damn it Kramer, I have no excuse other than the fact that my entire life has changed dramatically in the past eight weeks. Overall, that's not a bad thing but let's just say that this transition was unexpected.

If I remember correctly, your initial question had something to do with comparing the virtues of Panama over Costa Rica and therein lies the problem and the real reason why I have avoided responding.

I love Costa Rica.

The people are probably the most genuine that I have encountered throughout Latin America and their national slogan; "Pura Vida!" certainly rings true in most facets of Costa Rican life. It really does seem to be a lifestyle attitude.

The countryside is breathtaking, the women are adorable and a person could live well here with about the same income as the parts of the US that have been least affected by the economic downturn.

However, Panama offers tremendous benefits in the way of banking, modern living, infrastructure and most of the things that many Americans take for granted. The economy is booming and in fact is one of the fastest growing in the world. I have read that there are more banks in Panama City than there are in New York City and don't find that hard to believe.

The Panamanian people are also very warm and that is most evident in the crime rate. Panama is one of the Top 10 safest countries in the world according to the United Nations' statistics. It is a very geographical diverse country with everything from a variety of rain forests to some of the most pristine waters in the Caribbean, not to mention a Pacific coast that boasts more world records in fishing that any other spot in the world.

My advice to anyone would be to Google "Retiring in Panama" and then get back to me with questions. I think the first article that comes up in that search is an MSN Money Magazine article which is a little bit dated but still mostly accurate. Most of my friends that I have directed here have been for the most part, in disbelief.

thanks judge ..

Have not visited either country yet , both on my list..

When I do eventually retire - lol
Will have -0- Mortgage ,
Numerous investments as supplemental income plus
co. pension

From what I've read and watched on various
buying outside shows ,

Its likely a good idea to
rent for 4-6 months in winter
wherever you're considering

before buying to get accustomed to the
"lifestyle" of each place ..

will have to consider a trip
to both in
the future ..
