Poster Pwherr : Auto Question ...

Pwherr need help with an auto question sir

Drive a 2001 Chrsler Sebring lx , 90,000km
For about 5 days it wouldn';t start in the a.m.

I have one of those portable boosters (great investment)
that started it up ./
Anyways , when I go to work and come out after 8 hours it starts fine ,
its only in the morning after sitting in the driveway for 12 hours
that it won't start.

So I took it to mechanic and had battery replaced , I figured 4 1/2 yr old
should be replaced anyways .

Now this morning I go to start the car and again there's no power ?
Its dead ...
I put on the charger and it starts right away ...

Somehow its losing power ,

and no I made sure there were no lights turned on, etc
turned everything off , even shut off the radio ,
but stilll no power..

What do you think the problem is ?

You can probably change the alternator yourself.

Pwherr is a mechanic sir which is why I directed the question to him ...
which shows your lack of knowledge in this particular subject ...

all I asked is how much are we looking at ?
( which you didn't answer)

I suppose you consider yourself a professional at your job whatever that may be ?

Alternators are not that expensive. You can get brand new ones or you can get re-conditioned ones. Difference is not that great. I would venture to guess its around $80 or $90 as I haven't replaced an alternator in the last 5 yrs.

Its probably just the alternator. Replace that and your problem(s) should disappear.

If you have a short circuit, then you have a serious problem, but that doesn't seem to be the case here because you are able to boost your vehicle.

An example of a short is when something stays on even after it has been turned OFF, such as headlights staying on even after you turned them off. The OFF simply creates an open circuit thus not supplying power to the headlights, however, a short means that the circuit is a closed circuit and power is still being supplied to the headlights even if the switch is in the OFF position.

If its a short, then it can be costly as every inch of the wiring harness must be checked to locate the short.

Rebuilts run about 200 for that car new close to 400 (Plus labor).A short anywhere else is a by the hour thing. Most dealerships around here are at 85 an hour ind are at 70.My rate is 65 but I have less overhead.
And yes skipper I have been doing this for 30 years and have been doing it on my own for 23 years. So professional I would say real close by I am trying.

In that case.....get Kramer an alternator at cost and let him pay for shipping costs.

other possibilities after checking the internet :

There could be a dirty or corroded connection to the battery

There could be a problem with the ignition switch or connecting wiring
there could be a problem with the starter solenoid ...

fuel injected cars are very sensitive to proper fuel pressure .
If the pressure is off by a few pounds it can cause a no start condition .

a defective charging system that does not replenish the batteries charge
(what does that mean-lol)

a defective interior or trunk lamp switch that leaves the bulb lit

sound right pwherr ?
