Poster Pwherr : Headlight "Modual" Repalcement
Do these often ?
Common maintneance what % of cars you think? Domestic more than foreign? Mine headlight would stay on day time , but at night wouldn't increase to night brightness. Dianostic was to replace the headlight "modular" control system... About 4 bills. Car about 7 yrs old so stuff breaks sown I guess ...

I have never replaced one. That tells you it doesn't go out very often.4 bills? Try the salvage yards.

I'd replace the batt before I do anything... if that doesn't work, it's the alternator for sure...

The primary purpose of a car battery is to START the engine.
It also is used to filter or stabilize the power and provide extra power for the ignition, lighting and other accessories when their combined load EXCEEDS the capability of the charging system, i.e., when the engine is idling. In addition, a car battery provides power to the electrical system when the charging system is not operating. lot of people might think that power comes from the battery, and that is true to some extent. But the real answer is that the power to run all of those electrical things comes from Saudi Arabia! Huh? Saudi Arabia? Well, maybe Dallas, or Oklahoma. But the point is that the source for all of that energy is the gas tank. Yep. And the link from the gas tank to the battery is that mysterious thing called the alternator. It takes mechanical power from the crankshaft, transmits it via a "fan" belt, (it used to run the cooling fan as well) or serpentine belt as it is called in most of the newer cars and turns the alternator. So, the main function of the alternator is to convert power from the gasoline engine that drives you along the road, to electrical energy to keep the battery in tip-top condition. THIS is what the Body Control Module does: The Body Control Module (BCM) supplies vehicle occupants with visual and audible information and controls various vehicle functions, To provide and receive information, the module is interfaced to the vehicle's serial bus communications network, This network consists of the powertrain control module (PCM), the Transmission Control Module (TCM) , the electro/mechanical instrument cluster (MIC) , the Airbag Control Module (ACM) , the Compass/mini-trip module and the Controller Antilock brake Module (CAB). The BCM is operational when battery power is supplied to the module. Ignition switch power is needed for ignition switch functions. The BCM provides the following features: • Automatic door locks • Battery protection • Chimes • Compass/mini-trip support • Courtesy lamps * • BCM diagnostic support • Door lock inhibit • Headlamp time delay * • Ignition key lamp • Illuminated entry • Instrument panel dimming • Mechanical instrument cluster support • Power door locks (with/without remote keyless entry) • Sliding door memory lock • Vehicle Theft Security system (VTSS) • Windshield wipers / washers (front and rear) As you can see, it is central to the control systems of the car, truck , van , etc and can be very complex. To my way of thinking if one or maybe two systems connected to the BCM have a problem, then the cause is probably within that system. But when they all have a problem, then I have to think the BCM is bad. At the very least they can try it. It doesn't take but a few minutes to put it in and if it doesn't fix the problem, then can just take it out. I assume that they checked all the fuses, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention this. There is a IOD fuse in the fuse box. If it is blown, you will have the same symptoms. And since it is possible for a fuse to pop while replacing a battery, I think that ALL the fuses should be checked with a meter and not just visually The lights were working , (except night light) so obv not a fuse , car was starting , not battery , Alternater mainly "converts" power , that wasn't it ....
