Poster Pwherr - Question :

Leaking transmission :

Ever repaired these ?

Average cost?

Mechanic suggests taking to transmission
shop that specializes in it ..

Has a rear main seal leak..

2001 so 9 yrs old ..

As long as transmission fluid kept up ok
to keep driving?

Kind of like lots of cars leak oil ,
but i assume this is a worse problem ...

Rear main is an engine leak. The trans must be pulled to fix.If it is the pump seal on the trans the trans must be pulled. If it is the output shaft seals on the trans you can change those by just pulling the axles.I am assuming 2001 that it is frontwheel drive. If it is rear wheel drive output seal can be changed by pulling the driveshaft. And yes if you keep them full you can drive till they blow. That is one thing that pisses me off more than anything is when someone parks in my driveway and shits oil all over it

.....Hijack alert.....

Hey Paul. My Dodge Ram (1999 - 160,000) had a bunch of water come out from under the dash to the floorboard of the passenger side like a week ago. A lot of water. I sopped it up with towels. No more water. No problems. But what the f*ck is that all about?

Oh, and when I first start it and accelerate, I hear water flowing like in the dash somewhere. Still no problems, but something probably ain't right, huh?

It was definitely water. Hasn't happened since. I drove it like 500 miles that day before it happened (or before I noticed anyway) if that means anything.

A blocked weep drain eh? F*ck it. I can live with that - whatever it is... lol.

On the firewall pass side there is this rubber tube coming out when it gets clogged or if the humidity is high the condensation from the evap drains on the floor. It won't hurt anything.
