I think the posers should be arrested too. I think they get off on doing this.
And before I get flamed, I am in now way defending the pedophiles. But...

Wouldn't you agree that a pedofile is "sick"?
Meaning that there is a mental instability of some sort?
Okay, now lets say that someone pretends to be Satan or some demon of some sort and decides to screw with a Mentally Unstable person by calling him every day and telling him something like: "I'm the devil, now you must kill your family"
Now lets say this person actually pulls a Ronald De Feo and kills his family.
Shouldn't there be some liability there on the person that talked him into doing it?? I think there would be.
Isn't this very similar??
This lady is screwing with mentally unstable people by pretending to be a little girl and getting them to act on their perversions.
In fact, I'll bet that people that do this to pedophiles actually increase the number of incidents. - She gets the pedo all worked up on his computer then he goes out and finds some little girl to molest.

Okay, the argument against my "devil made me do it" example would be that the Mentally Unstable person would not otherwise kill his family, but that the pedo would act on his perversion with or without persuasion.
Fine, I'll buy that. But, I really think that criminal law should be enforced by the police, and not by some 21-year old female civilian. These people that screw with pedophiles are playing with fire. Someone is going to get hurt, and you know what? - They'll probably deserve it.

Also, I think its strange that you can get put in jail for having a conversation with a 21-year old pretending to be something she is not. I think a good defense would be that the guy knew she was 21 and was just acting out an online fantasy for her benefit.
I guess its the same thing as getting busted for buying a bag of sugar when it is being sold as cocaine.

Have a nice day.

I kinda agree with you bob.

That shit should be left to the police who professionally go about it without provoking.

Very thought-provoking post. And I would agree with your insinuation above that there's an underlying fanaticism with some of these people that's more than a bit disturbing. I call it the "John Walsh-ification" of the public. Walsh has done good work in raising awareness, but I think he's given rise to a vigilante element which is fanatical to the core.

the fact of the matter is...that much about crime has to do with a legal term "mens rhea" meaning the intent of the person....with that said when they make a date with a child online and attempt to meet them or seduce them...their intent and therefore the actions leading up to it are illegal...

I personally think you have more of a case for entrapment if it the police doing these things and not private citizens...

and in fact that is the only way to have entrapment..private citizens cannot entrap unless they are being sent by law enforcement
