As a pro athlete, is holding out ever acceptable?

Play out your damn contract!

No exceptions

This and not running out plays in baseball raise my blood pressure the most.

These guys sign a contract then decide it's not good enough?? Owners should hold out paying then on some of these guys when they are a bust.

Agreed, contract is a contract.

Wonder what would happen if the owners held an under performing players pay until he renegotiated?

Owners let it happen. Fine em, cut em, do something other than cave in. Don't think you would see much of it if they didn't get their way.

I believe in football it is acceptable since there are no guaranteed contracts. A player can be cut the minute after they sign and that's it.

what he said....in football, holding out is acceptable IMO....if it is ok for the owners to not honor contracts, why not the players???....how often do guys get cut and have to re-negotiate or go somewhere else to get paid???....now, if the money was a guaranteed contract, then no, it is not acceptable to hold out b/c you signed the contract (ie, basketball and baseball)....sometimes the owners win, sometimes the players win
