PS 2 question serious answers only please

My PS 2 won't work.....it started with GTA San Andreas it would load and load and not be able to read the disk as well as making a fast ticking noise.

Well now that happens with all my disks and DVD's u put it in and the above happens only now nothing comes on the screen.

So basically it can't read disks.
What is the best option here ? get it fixed (do they do this ?) or buy another one ? which would be cheaper ?

Have been meaning to look into it, just thought someone here might know.

Dave im not positive, but im pretty certian that having it fixed professioanlly would cost more than a new PS2 (PS3 is about to be relaesed), have you tried a lasser cleaner, like for dvd/cd players?

this happened to mine and both my roommates ps2's. You can search online about how to clean it or get some airduster and it will fix it for awhile. However, it is an ongoing battle. It works alot better if you stand it up vertically.

The reason I ask is bc I put a chip in mine and sometimes I load a game it does the same thing. To fix it I would hold down the reset button til it flashes and then push the reset again real quick. Usually takes a couple times and it works for me again. But if you dont have a chip then I dunno, maybe jsut try it still to see if it works.
