Question Public betting - Who is the public exactly?

Any thoughts on this?

Its this wierd dude who lives in North Las Vegas. I have his e-mail so if anyone wants his plays let me know. All this speculation, I can just ask him.

I general denote this title to anyone who regularly wagers on sporting events for the sake of the action. Although winning is important to this people as well, for them winning just means they get to play more.

These people will wager on any sport even if they know very little about the game or the teams or their players. These degenerates just need the adrenal rush of watching the game or a sports ticker.

On the other end of the spectrum you have what I call the "professionals". These guys will have good money management skills and use "systems" or they make very few bets but those they make are large plays.

I like to think I'm somewhere in the middle there.

Largest single bet I ever made was a winner.
$8 000.00 on Tampa Bay Money Line over Oakland in the Superbowl.

The "Public" is everyone who wagers on a game. There is no breakdown between small and large players. Where you see a breakdown is in the ratio between the amount of money played on a team compared to the number of people playing that same team. So if team A gets 50% of the money, but 75% of the players, people think that the "Public" is on team A, even though the money is evenly divided. Remember, all the books want is a 50/50 split on the money, so they make their Vig. This is why they encourage wiseguys to "Bait and Switch" the majority of bettors. If I wager $1,000.00 on team B and 10 other people wager $100.00 on team A, the books make $100.00 no matter who wins. They could care less that the Public seems to be on team A by a 10/1 margin. The books use the term "Public" to gear the wagering the way they want it to go. If a book needs money on team B, they will tell everyone that the Public is on Team A, knowing that there are so many players out there that will go against the public no matter what the line is, they will wager on team B, and the book will balance their sheet. What you had better realize is that most books release information that they want you to know, not what you need to know. How can you question the numbers they show you?
