Question about helping others

We here at Cappers mall are blessed to have an info structure like we have to gather info and make money. There are alot of families/ vets / less fortunate that I feel like needs our help. I take it upon myself each year to find a family/ person in need and help them out. Last year it was one lil old lady that lived in Uniontown, Alabama. She was a black lady that ha no one. She had a racial barrier that I had to get through as well. And probably rightfully so. She lived near where I hunted. I noticed her one day going out at daylight thru a pasture to gather limbs for her fireplace. My heart just went out for her. I talked with people where I worked an we gathered food for her and firewood and clothes. What a blessing to give to this woman that didn't ask for shit. It took me a while to get her warmed up to a white guy but once she realized I was trying to sincerely help her she warmed up to me and my wife and friends. I challenge everyone here to look beyond our own self an help someone that truely needs it. I don' t say this for self praise but just want us all took look around an help others that may be in need thru the winter and this season. I don't hunt there this year due to my work schedule but I am going to carry her a trailer full of firewood and canned goods as well as dog food for her dogs. She is well over 90 and talks about the civil rights stuff that went down in Alabama. She said she was raised free which leads me to believe that she had kin in slavery. No matter what ur stance is on the civil rights act it makes no sense for any woman to struggle thru winter or struggle period. The first time I met her she was scared to death and said her husband would be back soon. Then after a talked with her neighbors I found her husband had been dead for atleast 20 years. I am by no means a saint nor do I expect to be considered a great guy. I have done a lot ovthings that I am not proud of and will not go into that but I challenge everyone here to donate or help someone/ family in need this winter. Let's make this country great again and help our neighbors out. It is not the same jut to donate to the salvation army , trust me, you get way more out of it when you do it in person just because your heart led you to it. Even I it is just a small donation Tina family or as I did and recruited co workers to give so much. Anything is better than nothing. Thanks for reading and would love to read any replies or acts that have been done.

^So very true... Donating is fine, but it really doesn't compare to taking something on yourself. I try to do both when I can as well. Good man countryboy... good man.. You probably changed more for that lady than either of us will ever fully realize... pretty amazing.

Not sure about the accuracy of these numbers, but somebody posted this on Facebook the other day and I found it interesting....

As you give donations this Christmas Season, please keep these facts in mind:
The American Red Cross President and CEO Marsha J. Evans
salary for the year was $951,957 plus expenses

The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $675,000
base salary along with numerous expense benefits.

UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,900,000 per year (158K) per month plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE . Less than 5 cents (4.4 cents) per donated dollar goes to the cause.

• The Salvation Army's Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization. 96 percent of donated dollars go to the cause.

Nothing better than helping somebody else out, especially during the Holiday season. My wife grew up in a very poor family, and she remembers what it was like. We always try and buy several Holiday meals (Kroger has a good option), and also toys for kids during the Christmas season.

I remember seeing a very good website that rates, and watches over a lot of these places. Can't remember exact link, but these look like a couple for people to check out before:

CharityWatch - Helping Donors Make Informed Giving Decisions
Charity Navigator - America's Largest Charity Evaluator | Home

American Red Cross A
Salvation Army – Central Territory A–
Salvation Army – Eastern Territory A
Salvation Army – Southern Territory A–
Salvation Army – Western Territory A–

etc etc... so looks like they are solid, but I have a pretty good idea of the agenda behind the "Facebook post" and wherever else its being pushed... boyoyoyo watcanyado

My wife and I are very fortunate to have good solid stable careers. Each year, right before Christmas, we take our kids out for a pre-Christmas meal at a restaurant of the kid's choice. Now, I know how hard working as a waiter/waitress can be especially during the holiday season. These folks are working for their tips.

Typically, around the holiday season, an older person is working to give the younger folks time off around the holiday. We've always received good service at this meal. It feels very nice to pull out a crisp $100 bill and place it in the bill fold with the receipt and a note expressing our gratitude for their hard work. I make sure my boys see me do this so they know what it feels like to give to someone instead of always wanting.

I help out people all the time, whether it is throwing everybody's newspaper closer to their doors/garage when I take my dogs for their morning walk, to inviting homeless people to eat with us in Vegas.

Opening the door for people? People look like deer in headlights some days when I do this for them. Buy an energy drink and Sun-Times, a lot. Run late for the Metra, a lot. I throw a $5 on the counter and say give the change to the guy behind me. Beats paying an extra $3-4 on the train for your ticket, and you help someone out.

My new dick move though is great. I'm sicking of letting people walk side-by-side with their significant other, oblivious that one of us have to give way. I've been giving way, then "stumbling" my near shoulder into the guy. I proceed to look back, laugh, and say.... I'm so not sorry. I perfected this in Vegas in September, and it has helped out here in the holiday season for some chuckles.

Had to throw that in there, because it's those people, that don't help out others, the prima donnas, that only care for themselves.

My wife and i always went to this Elks lodge for fish frys on friday nites and when we found out what they did we joined. This sunday we are going to the local va hospital and deliver goody bags to everyone. The tuesday before thanksgiving we had about 70 of them at the lodge for a full turkey dinner. Some of these guys /gals don't even have any family at all and it's a great feeling to be able to do the things that we can do for them.

I'm not big on giving money to charity. I always think its better to help someone out individually. A few years ago one of my neighbours came down with cancer so I started shoveling his snow during the winter. He and his wife are both elderly so I have continued to shovel each year. His wife that Christmas gave me a gift subscription to a magazine and inside the magazine was a flyer asking for help to support homeless and down and out people in Toronto with Christmas dinner by making a donation. I mailed in $10 to help. Since that time I now receive mail from this organization maybe 10 times a year requesting money. I still like this organization that helps out the street people but i think its excessive the mailings they've sent out and I haven't bothered to mail any money in since then.
Guess the point of my story is that I enjoy helping someone out if they need a hand but sometimes when its a handout I get a bit turned off by it.

One move to get people to move out of your way is when you see a crowd approaching taking up the entire sidewalk is to just keep walking with your head slightly down like your not looking in front of you. Suprisingly they'll get out of the way believing your not looking where your going. Works great!

I don't do much but I do buy a couple 18 packs and a couple bags of burgers or couple pizza's and drive down the downtown alleys. My wife thinks I'm nuts but it's the holidays and they should be happy too.

(I do this between Christmas/New Years--have for 8-10 yrs now )
