Question on Tennis betting.

Hello guys, trying to start up here betting but you know how that goes. I'm starting small but confused a bit. Could anyone tell me how this asian handicapping works below? Not sure how to read this.

Asian Handicap Tennis

1. Haas vs IIhan
Haas +1.5 sets

2 Fish vs Mello
Fish -5.5 games

Seta are either 3 or 5 in a match in Mens tourneys

so, +1 1/2, in sets means losing by 3-2 or 2-1, or winning outright to win the bet

Games= add up games won and lost and the difference must be 6 or more if one takes Fish

This isn't asian handicap any more than the RL is in baseball

in scenario 1...if you took haas he would have to win 2 or 3 sets to win that wager

in scenario 2...fish would have to win 6 games or more than his opponent

since you are wagering on handicaps the matches have to finish with retirement or they will be graded as a push

the first one would have been a loser...haas won 1 set
the 2nd one would have been a winner...fish won 9 more games than his opponent

Did you mean North Americans refer to this betting as "point spread" betting?

This type of betting was around in tennis long before the term "asian handicap" came about. AH as you know is used predominantly in soccer.

I suppose if one is from the East, he might say U S Football has asian handicaps, as well as hoops and baseball, in your way of thinking

Also good to note Grand Slam events, like the French Open going on NOW, the men play a best of 5 sets.

The women play a best of 3. The men play best of 3 in just about all other tournaments.

maybe you are right...i guess it mainly pertains to the splits in football..1/4 pts etc...i hear non americans using the term outside of football...or maybe it was just handicap i heard for other sports....never heard point spread from non american that had no american forum affiliation
