Quick Computer Help

When I try to play a DVD in Windows Media Player a pop up comes up that says Ido not have a compatible dvd decoder is not installed on my computer. Dont know what is compatible or not and how to find it. I have Windows XP. Just got the computer from school and not everything was updated so Im finding these problems each day. Any help I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance

u have several options

if you really want to use that piece of shit wmp program

then you need to go through microsoft site and it will auto diagnosis what codec you need

or you can google vlc player, free download and voila

vlc plays any type video file know to man including dvd playback

Go to the Microsoft site and you may be able to find some help there, otherwise click on My Computer then click view system information then click hardware and you should be able to set your updates to make sure your drivers are updating. You may have to go to the site for the company of your dvd drive (may have to google the brand) and install the proper driver to run that drive. Hope that helps.

You need to install a dvd decoder program, unfortunatly most of these cost money. Unless you can download from an "alternate" location.
